Weekly Review: March 31, 2018

The past couple of weeks I’ve just been traveling domestically, and I’ve even spent the past week in Florida visiting my family, which has been nice. I’ll be back to international travel starting next week, which I’m very much looking forward to, after being on the ground for a while.

On the points and travel front, this week we saw a great new welcome bonus on the Ink Cash Card, Air New Zealand announced that they’re adding flights to Chicago, Singapore Airlines revealed their new 787-10 business class, and much more.

With that out of the way, here’s a recap of this week on the blog:

Singapore Airlines’ New A380 Suites

I was so excited about this flight. Emirates and Singapore both introduced new first class products just weeks apart, and having flown Emirates’ new first class weeks prior, I was looking forward to seeing how Singapore’s new Suites compared. I’ve reviewed Singapore’s “old” Suites before, and couldn’t wait to see how the product evolved.

Singapore’s A380 Suites cabin is gorgeous. My first thought was that it looked very similar to Etihad’s A380 First Class Apartments, since there’s just a single aisle in the cabin. However, this layout was even more spacious. Singapore Airlines has just six Suites, while Etihad has nine First Class Apartments plus The Residence in the same area. The pictures don’t really do justice to how beautiful the cabin is when you first see it.

Should You Apply For The 50K Ink Cash Or 80K Ink Preferred Offer?

This week Chase launched a new welcome bonus on the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card, which is by far the biggest welcome bonus that has ever been offered on the card. The Ink Business Cash has a welcome bonus of $500 cash back (which can potentially be converted into 50,000 Ultimate Rewards points) after spending $3,000 within three months. This is a massive welcome bonus for a no annual fee card.

Earlier I wrote a post sharing seven reasons (other than the welcome bonus) that you should consider applying for the card. One question I’ve been asked a few times since then is whether it makes more sense to apply for the Ink Business Cash® Credit Card or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card. Let’s take a closer look at that question.

Here’s What’s Changing About Hilton Honors Next Week

Hilton Honors has made some significant program changes the past couple of years, and for the most part they’ve been positive.

In 2017 Hilton Honors made some radical changes, adding new Points & Cash redemptions, introducing points pooling, giving members more ways to redeem their points, and even giving Diamond members the chance to extend their status by a year. I tend to think these changes were positive, especially for those who just occasionally stay at Hilton properties.

Noooooo... bath towels that don’t absorb water is nothing like getting a new car!!!

    Hahaha... cheers!

@ Ke...thanks for the response and I totally get your point but I think if that's the worse of it I can deal with that. If it's anything like getting into a brand new car than I think I will enjoy it

@Alex Z.. I’m not answering for @Lucky but these are my own thoughts..

I generally don’t like hotels that are ‘too new’ and only because very often, they’re bath towels haven’t been ‘run in’ yet and can be quite unbearable to use.. they don’t absorb water and have a lot of ‘fluff’ that comes off and sticks to your body..

If the particular new hotel knows this and takes care of it by wash-cycling their towels several times before opening their doors then that’s fine.. but that’s added costs and ‘environmentally unfriendly’ to do, so.....

@ Lucky I have a question...have you ever stayed at a hotel during it's grand opening? If not do you think it's a good idea stay during that time? I have a trip coming up to Dubai and I'm think of staying at a Holiday Inn Festival City which is opening up April 19

    @Larry B

Emirates did this last year, too. Keep in mind it's April 1st in Dubai.
