One of my favorite things about Air Canada Aeroplan is the emphasis that the program has on adding partners. Aeroplan has more airline partners than any other airline frequent flyer program. We’ve seen several partners added in the past couple of years, including Etihad, Azul, Vistara, Air Serbia, Virgin Australia, Air Dolomiti, Eurowings Discover, Gulf Air, Oman Air, and Air Mauritius.
While this is admittedly pretty niche, Aeroplan has just added its newest airline partner, and it could come in handy for those looking to travel within Mexico.

Air Canada & Aeromar partnership details
A loyalty program partnership has been launched between Air Canada and Mexico’s Aeromar, allowing Aeroplan members to earn and redeem points for travel on Aeromar. I wanted to take a look at the opportunities this affords, and also talk about Aeromar, for those who aren’t familiar.
What is Aeromar?
Aeromar is a regional airline in Mexico, operating a fleet of 10 turboprop aircraft, including ATR 42-600s and ATR 72-600s. The airline has a hub in Mexico City (MEX), and operates to over two dozen destinations.
Interestingly Aeromar doesn’t have its own frequent flyer program, but rather up until now has partnered with United MileagePlus. That’s despite the fact that United doesn’t have any ownership stake in the airline, and Aeromar has no affiliation with Star Alliance. It’s nice to see Aeromar gain yet another airline partner.
Redeem Aeroplan points on Aeromar
It’s possible to redeem Air Canada Aeroplan points on all Aeromar flights. A few things to note:
- Aeromar awards follow Aeroplan’s standard partner award pricing chart
- Aeroplan members are able to book Aeromar flights online at aircanada.com, or via the call center
- Aeromar flights are combinable with flights operated by Air Canada and other international airline partners (so you could connect within Mexico as part of a larger award)
- While there are no carrier imposed surcharges, the standard 39 CAD partner booking fee applies

As you can see, flying a distance of up to 500 miles will cost you 6,000 points, while flying a distance of 501-1,500 miles will cost you 10,000 points. If you wanted a stopover on an itinerary for more than 24 hours, you could book that for an additional 5,000 points, which is a great deal.
Air Canada Aeroplan is transfer partners with Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Capital One, so if you have transferrable points this is a great program to book through. On top of that, there’s the Aeroplan® Credit Card (review), which is lucrative and recently launched in the United States.
Earn Aeroplan points on Aeromar
It’s also now possible to earn Aeroplan points for all scheduled flights on Aeromar. However, you don’t earn any Status Qualifying Miles (SQMs) for Aeromar flights. Here is the Aeroplan points earning chart for Aeromar:

Air Canada Aeroplan has added Aeromar as an airline partner, and it’s now possible to earn and redeem Aeroplan points for travel on Aeromar. While this is niche, it will no doubt come in handy for those looking to travel within Mexico. Not only can you book most of Aeromar’s flights starting at 6,000 Aeroplan points, but you can also earn Aeroplan points for these flights.
