I had a roughly 1hr45min layover in Munich, as I was arriving from Tokyo Haneda and connecting to London Heathrow.
I was expecting I wouldn’t be able to review a Lufthansa Lounge, because the last time I passed through Munich the lounge was so full that the only place to sit was on the floor.
My last Lufthansa Business Lounge visit
So I was pleasantly surprised to find that wasn’t the case this time around, in spite of it being Thursday evening.
Lufthansa has at least four Business Lounges (and on top of that they have Senator Lounges, the Senator Cafe, and First Class Lounges), and I reviewed the one in Concourse H.

Upon arriving from Tokyo I first was treated to a beautiful sunset in the terminal, and then had to clear transit security.

Frankly I don’t understand how the minimum connecting time in Munich is just 45 minutes — we had to walk quite a ways upon arrival, then there was about a 15 minute wait at transit security, and then from there it’s potentially quite a walk to connecting flights.
The Lufthansa Senator Lounge in Concourse H is located near gate H24. This is one of the two non-Schengen Business Lounges in the terminal, which I had access to given that London is non-Schengen.

I would imagine the Schengen lounges are significantly busier at this time, given all the regional business travelers.

The Lufthansa Business Lounge Munich is open daily from 5AM until 10PM, which covers virtually all departures from the airport. With the exception of the Senator Cafe, virtually all the lounges at the airport have similar hours.
How To Access Lufthansa Business Lounges
The Lufthansa Business Lounge is accessible by all Star Alliance business class passengers. For Star Alliance Gold members, Lufthansa has separate Senator Lounges. They’re not necessarily that much better (the drink selection is marginally better, but that’s about it), but rather it’s just a separate space.

I believe the lounge I visited was the smaller of the non-Schengen Business Lounges in Munich, so while this is a hub airport lounge, it’s definitely not their flagship lounge (not to be confused with Flagship Lounges). 😉 Then again, I was delighted to be in a Lufthansa Business Lounge that wasn’t insanely overcrowded for once.

Inside the main lounge entrance, the Business Lounge was located to the right, while the Senator Lounge was located to the left. The lounge was definitely on the small side, though as I said above, not at all crowded when I visited.
Inside the entrance to the left was some restaurant-style seating, with a booth along the wall, and then a bunch of tables with one seat each on the other side.

There was some greenery along the center area of the lounge, and then some more restaurant-style seating, along with high-top tables along the other side.

In the center part of the lounge were some dining tables, along with the buffet.

Then in the back were leather chairs in rows, along with a TV on each side of the lounge.

There were also a variety of newspapers along one of the walls.

The bathrooms and showers were outside the entrance to the Business Lounge, so that they could be shared between the Business Lounge and Senator Lounge areas.

The lounge lacked views and natural light. There were a few windows in the center part of the lounge, but they didn’t even have views.
The Wi-Fi in the lounge was fast and easy to use, so I spent about 45 minutes in the lounge working.
Overall it wasn’t exactly the most beautiful lounge I’ve ever been to, but I appreciated how quiet it was.

This is the area where the lounge impressed me, because the food and drink selection seemed above average for sure.

To drink, there was a soda fountain, water, juice, an espresso machine, and self serve beer, wine, and liquor.

The food selection in particular impressed me, with chips and olives, several types of salads, three hot dishes, two soups, a variety of bread, and all kinds of desserts.

While perhaps unnecessary, I thought the selection of desserts along the center island of the buffet area was cute, as there were marshmallows, M&Ms, and all kinds of other sugary treats.

With the exception of Lufthansa’s phenomenal first class lounges, I have very low expectations of Lufthansa’s lounges. With that in mind, this lounge impressed me. While it wasn’t anything to get excited about, at least it was quiet, and the food and drink selection exceeded my expectations.
