Aeroméxico Added As Citi ThankYou Transfer Partner

The US Citi ThankYou program has just added a new transfer partner, meaning they have a total of 15 airline transfer partners.

Transfer Citi Points To Aeroméxico Club Premier

Citi ThankYou points can now be converted into Aeroméxico Club Premier points at a 1:1 ratio. The Citi ThankYou transfer page has already been updated to reflect this, and points transfers are instant.

Citi ThankYou is the third transferable points currency to transfer to Aeroméxico Club Premier, after Amex Membership Rewards and Capital One Spark & Venture (meanwhile Chase Ultimate Rewards points don’t transfer).

Unfortunately, the transfer ratio is really bad — while Amex points transfer at a 1:1.6 ratio, Citi points only transfer at a 1:1 ratio.

There are some good cards for earning Citi ThankYou points, so the points themselves are pretty easy to come by. For example, I’m excited about the Citi Double Cash® Card, which can now earn up to 2x ThankYou points per dollar spent in conjunction with a card earning ThankYou points.

Is There Any Value In Aeroméxico Club Premier?

Aeroméxico is in SkyTeam, so in theory, this gives us access to a second SkyTeam program, in addition to Air France-KLM Flying Blue.

Unfortunately Aeroméxico’s award chart is really bad. At least it’s bad when you consider Citi’s 1:1 transfer ratio, rather than Amex’s 1:1.6 ratio.

For example, here’s their chart for roundtrip travel originating in the US (on both Aeroméxico and SkyTeam partners):

220,000 points roundtrip to Europe, or 256,000 miles roundtrip to Asia? No thanks.

In addition to these outrageously high prices, the airline also imposes carrier-imposed surcharges when applicable.

For those wondering about low season and high season, the high season is the following dates (with other dates being low season):

  • Holy Week: Starts the Monday before Holy Week and ends the Sunday following it
  • Summer Season: From June 1 to August 18
  • Christmas period: December 8 to January 16

Bottom Line

While more partners are always a good option, unfortunately, Aeroméxico’s redemption rates are really bad. I can’t think of many (or even any?) circumstances under which this represents a good deal compared to the other options out there.

So I guess more options are good, but personally this isn’t a program I’m at all excited about.

    Yes, Jet Privilege is still in business. They are separate from Jet Airways and are part of the Etihad Aviation Group.

    Just because all these blogs never talked about it (or anything in South Asia) doesn't mean nothing happened. They blog on what people in USA (their target readers) cares about. Is there a sweet spot using 9W miles? If there is any, bloggers would have miles with them right now. Ajay from LFAL...

    Remember when people hold Aegean airlines top status without ever realizing where the airline existed, or recently in Asia people have AS miles but never even been to America. Those weird things only happen with a sweet spot.
    Speaking of which, those with Platinum on 9W gets to keep their benefits indefinitely 'till further notice' or in the bloggers world term, Lifetime Etihad Lounge access!!!!!

    I think Carlos is right, the award chart prices are in KMs, so you need to divide the cost by 1.6 to find the amount that you'd need to transfer over from Citi. Still not a very good deal, but better than what it appears at first glance.

    Lucky I think Aeromexico doesn't think of its points as miles but rather as kilometers, hence the 1.6 Amex transfer ratio. In that case it's 137.5 miles r/t between US and Europe, which won't win any awards but isn't nearly as bad as Delta either. In any case what is "really bad" here is Citi's transfer ratio.

    Interesting that they added AM as a 1:1 transfer partner when amex is 1000:1600. The AM award charge is garbage either way but I could see possibly using Amex with it somehow. Citi's transfer rate makes it a non-starter.

It was still ridiculous in terms of points but AMEX transfers 1:1.6 to Aeromexico and I think they also had a bonus once where you could transfer it 1:2 and then the Round the World ticket was at a pretty solid price. However, that brings me to the next point. I understand that not all people have AMEX and Citi Points but offering...

It was still ridiculous in terms of points but AMEX transfers 1:1.6 to Aeromexico and I think they also had a bonus once where you could transfer it 1:2 and then the Round the World ticket was at a pretty solid price. However, that brings me to the next point. I understand that not all people have AMEX and Citi Points but offering a 1:1 when AMEX is offering a 1:1.6 as a standard is not really very competitive.

    Its a hit or miss, correct, but sometimes they have very good business class redemption rates, I've seen 40-50k for J in 7879 between the US and Mexico for instance, the website is pretty bad, and you really need to dig in ... By the way, question, AM and USBank deleted all info about their cobranded card, no applications are taken anymore, have you heard of any new card or partnership in the works? Thks
