JetBlue Offers Mosaic Extensions & Status Gifting

Better late than never. JetBlue has just become the latest US airline to extend elite status for current members. They’re following in the footsteps of Delta SkyMilesUnited MileagePlusAlaska Mileage PlanAmerican AAdvantage, Southwest Rapid Rewards, and Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles.

While it took JetBlue a while to announce this initiative, I think most members will be pretty happy about what they’re offering. This is in addition to JetBlue offering double points for all flights booked over the next few weeks.

JetBlue extending Mosaic by a year

First and foremost, all active JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic members will have their status extended through December 31, 2021, which represents a 12 month extension. Mosaic members should already see the status extension reflected in their accounts.

JetBlue Mosaic requirements & benefits

For a bit of context, Mosaic status ordinarily requires reaching one of the following thresholds over the course of a calendar year:

  • Earning 15,000 qualifying points
  • Earning 12,000 qualifying points and flying 30 segments
  • Spending $50,000 on the JetBlue Plus Card

You ordinarily earn 3x base points per dollar spent on JetBlue airfare (with the exception of Blue Basic fares, which earn 1x points), meaning that ordinarily you’d have to spend $4,000 to $5,000 per year on JetBlue flights to qualify for Mosaic.

What are the benefits of Mosaic status?

  • No change fees for members and their eligible travel companions
  • Two free checked bags
  • Redeem points for Even More Space seats at discounted rates
  • Expedited security screening
  • Priority boarding
  • A complimentary alcoholic beverage onboard
  • An additional 3x points per dollar spent on JetBlue
  • 15,000 bonus points upon qualifying for status

JetBlue allowing Mosaic members to gift status

Not only is JetBlue extending Mosaic status, but JetBlue is also allowing Mosaic members to gift that status to a friend or family member. That person will receive status between June 15, 2020, and June 15, 2021.

The nominated member will receive all the standard Mosaic benefits, with the exception of the 15,000 bonus points you usually receive for earning status.

Existing Mosaic members can apply for this benefit through this link by June 1, 2020. You’ll need to provide the names, TrueBlue numbers, and email addresses for both the person nominating and the person being nominated.

JetBlue makes it easier to earn Mosaic in 2020

For those who aren’t existing Mosaic members, JetBlue is making it easier to earn Mosaic status in 2020.

For those earning Mosaic status through flying, they’re essentially cutting the requirements in half:

  • Earn 7,500 qualifying points
  • Earn 6,000 qualifying points and fly 15 segments

Status earned this way will be valid through December 31, 2021, and you’ll still earn the 15,000 bonus points upon qualifying.

Bottom line

While it sure took JetBlue a while to announce an extension to Mosaic status, they came through. They’re extending Mosaic status by a year, and reducing requirements this year by 50%.

The icing on the cake is that they’re allowing existing Mosaic members to nominate a friend or family member to Mosaic, which is brilliant — this will definitely encourage some people to choose JetBlue over competitors as they get back in the sky.

What do you make of JetBlue’s status extension and gifting option?

  1. Hey could any one having JetBlue status help me with gifting the status? Will be really thankful. Have a great day!

  2. Man I wish I new someone with mosaic status. It would be great to use it for a status challenge train. I’m thinking Alaska first, followed by Delta.

Do you think JetBlue or anyone else will try to poach elites? I have American Gold via Hyatt and it’s useless.
