Wyndham Is Offering A Free Night After Two Stays

Wyndham Rewards is a unique program, ever since they had an overhaul in 2015. They charge a flat 15,000 points per night for an award stay, regardless of what hotel you redeem at. So whether you’re looking at their cheapest or most expensive hotel, a free night will cost the same number of points.

Lately Wyndham Rewards has been offering more lucrative promotions, and they’ve just introduced their latest one, which is an opportunity to earn a free night after just two stays, similar to the promotion they offered last fall. This might just be one of the most generous hotel promotions we’ve seen in quite a while.

Wyndham Rewards members can earn 7,500 bonus points per stay when they pay for a stay with Masterpass online or through the Wyndham Rewards app. The promotion is valid for stays booked between July 16 August 31, 2018, and consumed by September 1, 2018, You can earn the bonus twice, for up to 15,000 bonus points.

The promotion is valid for members with accounts registered in the US and Canada, and bonus points should post 6-8 weeks after the eligible stay. Both pre-paid and flexible rates qualify (though award stays don’t), and you have to pay for the stay with the same card you use with Masterpass.

I should highlight one very annoying restriction in the terms, which Wyndham even bolds:

There are a limited number of bonus points available for this promotional offer-we may change or cancel this promotion at any time

While all loyalty programs reserve the right to cancel or change terms, these terms are especially strong, and worth being aware of. Wyndham has been known to not honor certain promotions in the past. I hope it’s not an issue here, but it is something to be aware of.

For those of you not familiar, Masterpass is Mastercard’s digital wallet option, similar to Visa Checkout.

When you go through the process of making a booking with Wyndham, you’ll see the option of choosing Masterpass as your payment method. If you haven’t yet registered, it’s free and quick to do so.

For some, this promotion might be worth mattress running for. There are tons of Wyndham properties for ~$60 per night, meaning that two stays will cost you ~$120.

Meanwhile there are plenty of Wyndham properties that retail for over $250 per night.

Whether or not it’s worth the effort to mattress run and earn the points without a specific use in mind is a different story, though.

However, if you have some upcoming stays anyway, it could be worth switching a couple of them to Wyndham. This is a hotel promotion that’s actually lucrative and worthwhile.

Do you plan on taking advantage of Wyndham’s Masterpass promotion?

  1. Hi,

Do I have to physically check in to the low dollar hotel or can I just book online and pay the one night rate to generate the 7500 point bonus?

    Thanks for any help.

  2. @GP …. If you pay and don’t show they will charge you and you would still get any associated benefits/points.

  3. What’s the catch to signing up for Masterpass? Specifically, what are the hidden charges for using MP?

  4. Steered my company to book two stays at a Days Inn, but it appears that either I needed to make the booking myself, or the Wyndham app needed to support MasterPass as a default payment option. It does not. The app allows for “Visa Checkout” or “creditcard” as default payment options, but MasterPass is not present. I have an iPhone, so using masterpass via android (+ google play app) also seems impossible.

Therefore, as far as I can tell, unless I booked the room myself, I’ll not be able to participate in this promo. I’ve otherwise signed up a citi mastercard in the masterpass program; and I’ve assigned that card to be my default payment option in the Wyndham app. Again, that screen showing “masterpass” as a payment option likely appears only at time of booking.

A bit annoyed since Days Inn is lousy – definitely a step-down
