The major hotel groups don’t have global loyalty program promotions nearly as often as they used to, and when they do, they’re typically not actually much to get excited about.
Along those lines, Marriott Bonvoy hasn’t had a global promotion since this spring, and that promotion ended on May 10, 2026. While the next global promotion still hasn’t been officially announced, we are learning what the details of the offer could be, for anyone with upcoming stays.

Upcoming Marriott Bonvoy global promo details leaked
While nothing has been officially announced yet, LoyaltyLobby shares what he claims are the details of Marriott Bonvoy’s upcoming global promotion (I guess hotels have been made aware of the details, and some leaked the details).
The upcoming promotion will reportedly offer 1,500 Bonvoy bonus points for stays of two or more nights, plus an additional 3,000 Bonvoy bonus points for stays at resorts, meaning that members can earn up to 4,500 bonus points per stay.
Let me emphasize that this hasn’t been officially announced, so I can’t personally vouch for this. However, the expectation is that registration will open on September 9, 2026, and that this will be valid for stays between September 22 and November 22, 2026. Furthermore, as usual for Bonvoy promotions, award stays wouldn’t count toward this.
I’ll of course provide an update once registration for this offer starts. But I think it’s useful to have a general sense of what we can expect, in case promotions do impact your decision of which property to stay at.
How valuable would this Marriott Bonvoy promotion be?
Assuming this promotion ends up being as expected, how lucrative is this? The math on this promotion would be easy. I value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents each, and you earn 1,500 bonus points on paid stays of at least two nights, and 4,500 bonus points on paid stays of at least two nights at resorts. Based on my valuation, that’s like a return of $10.50 and $33, respectively.
When you consider that stays need to be paid in cash and need to be at least two nights, it’s hard to get very excited about that.
Admittedly I don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth, and some promotion is better than no promotion. However, it’s also really hard to get excited about offers like this, and I have a hard time imagining these deals drive a lot of consumer decisions.
Normal Bonvoy points earning rates for hotel stays
Not factoring in this promotion, Marriott Bonvoy members ordinarily earn:
- 10x Bonvoy points per dollar spent at most brands
- 5x Bonvoy points per dollar spent at select limited service brands
Then there are elite bonuses:
- Silver Elite members earn 10% bonus points
- Gold Elite members earn 25% bonus points
- Platinum Elite members earn 50% bonus points
- Titanium Elite & Ambassador Elite members earn 75% bonus points
The above doesn’t include the points you can earn for credit card spending at hotels:
- You can earn up to 6x Bonvoy points per dollar spent on most co-branded Marriott cards, including the Marriott Bonvoy Business® American Express® Card (learn more) and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card (learn more)
- Otherwise, you can earn up to 3x transferable points on hotel spending (with Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, or Citi ThankYou)
As an Ambassador member with a co-branded credit card, I ordinarily earn 23.5x Bonvoy points per dollar spent at full service brands. At a valuation of 0.7 cents per point, that’s like a ~16% return on hotel spending.
Bottom line
Marriott Bonvoy hasn’t had a global promotion since this spring. While registration hasn’t yet opened, rumor has it that the next 2026 promotion will run from September 22 through November 22, with registration opening on September 9.
The belief is that the promotion will offer 1,500 bonus points for paid stays of two or more nights, and an additional 3,000 bonus points if stays are at resorts. Something is better than nothing, but I don’t see this driving many booking decisions.

We see more and more benefits for loyalty shrink! Your cost goes up, they claim they are doing U a favor? For travelers U have to put your dollars somewhere. The problem is one loyalty plan follows the others!
It's peculiar that Marriott doesn't offer a higher earning rate for Ambassador. Even something small would go a long way toward differentiating the tier.
The excuse for earning it tends to be “well I just get there naturally”.
Will never excuse the fact it’s the most abysmal ROI on $23k spend (pretax) in the T&L space.

Can I be honest? I'm at 71 nights. This is so bleeping weak that I'm tempted to only book the Fri/Sat nights on a stay with Marriott and just go via AAH or someone like that for any other paid nights. 5000 points max is weak enough that I had a momentary temptation to decline to register out of spite.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I think it's time to start giving some gift horses a full dental exam. At some point the offer comes across as so weak as to be insulting.
I think CSR gets 4x at hotels, not 3x?
These promotions are so weak there is no way they actually impact customers' behavior. Probably more out there for franchisees, so that Marriott can send a deck at the end of each year and have a slide about "a global promo driving loyalty" etc.
I would have not been happy at all with this promotion since I would have missed it by *literally* a day for my stays. But then I checked my Marriott account and saw a promo for 4500 bonus points on my first paid stay and 7500 bonus points on my next paid stay, all until Oct 31. So it's better than what is described here.
The reward rate on paid stays at the major networks is unappealing. Hyatt Globalist = 6.5 * 1.5 CPP = 9.75%. Marriott = 15 * 0.7 CPP = 10.5%. Etc. Throw in the watering down of tier benefits. A person will serve themselves well to consider previously foregone opportunities at non-network properties.
Coincidentally I was just checking my Marriott account and the promotion that came up was for double elite credit nights for all paid stays through November 30, though I wonder if that’s targeted and not for all members.
