World of Hyatt has just revealed the details of its next global promotion. The good news is that the new promotion is launching the day after the current promotion ends. The bad news is that for most World of Hyatt members it won’t be quite as generous as the previous promotion, which doesn’t really come as a surprise.

Keep in mind that all of this complements World of Hyatt reducing elite requirements by half for 2021, meaning you can earn Globalist status with just 30 elite qualifying nights.

New World of Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion

The new World of Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion will be valid for stays between March 1 and June 15, 2021. With this promotion, World of Hyatt members can earn:

  • 2,000 bonus World of Hyatt points after every two qualifying nights; these nights don’t have to be consecutive, but rather a running tally is kept
  • Those with the World of Hyatt Credit Card (review) can earn 2,500 bonus World of Hyatt points after every two qualifying nights (so that’s 25% more points)
  • All members can earn one free night award valid at a Category 1-4 hotel after the first 10 qualifying nights during the promotion period; this will be valid for up to 180 days after issuance

There are some more things to be aware of with the Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion:

  • Registration is required between February 23 and May 15, 2021
  • The promotion is valid for stays at all Hyatt properties, participating MGM Resorts, Small Luxury Hotels of the World locations, and Lindblad Expeditions
  • Any stay booked directly with Hyatt, including an award stay, qualifies towards this promotion
  • Previously booked stays qualify, so it’s fine if you booked before the promotion period started, as long as you register prior to check-out of your first stay
  • There’s no limit to how many bonus World of Hyatt points you can earn
  • Bonus points will post two to three weeks after an eligible stay

Crunching the numbers on Hyatt’s new promotion

How good is the new World of Hyatt promotion? For context, I value World of Hyatt points at ~1.5 cents each. So how does the math work out on this promotion?

  • If you don’t have the World of Hyatt Card you can earn an average of 1,000 bonus points per night, which is like an incremental $15 return
  • If you do have the World of Hyatt Card you can earn an average of 1,250 bonus points per night, which is an incremental $18.75 return
  • That doesn’t factor in the Category 1-4 free night award after 10 qualifying nights; a Category 4 stay could cost up to 15,000 points, so that’s up to 1,500 points of extra value for the first 10 nights (but some discount should be applied to that valuation)

All of this is in addition to the usual opportunities to earn World of Hyatt points for stays:

  • World of Hyatt members earn 5x points per dollar spent at Hyatts
  • Elite members receive further bonuses — Discoverists earn an extra 0.5x points per dollar spent, Explorists earn an extra 1.0x points per dollar spent, and Globalists earn an extra 1.5x points per dollar spent
  • If you pay with the World of Hyatt Credit Card (review) you earn an extra 4x World of Hyatt points per dollar spent

This promotion is especially lucrative for those redeeming points (since you can earn bonus points on award stays), as well as for those who stay a lot at properties that don’t have a high nightly rate (because 1,000-1,250 bonus points per night is a better return if you’re paying $80 per night than if you’re paying $800 per night).

This promotion is especially good for stays at less expensive Hyatts

Yes, World of Hyatt’s other promos are coming to an end

It’s worth acknowledging that World of Hyatt has offered some truly phenomenal promotions in recent months, and those are scheduled to come to an end as of February 28, 2021:

  • Since October 1, 2020, World of Hyatt has offered 3x points on all stays, and 4x points on stays at resorts for those with the World of Hyatt Card
  • Since October 1, 2020, World of Hyatt has offered double elite qualifying nights on all stays towards 2021 status
  • Since July 8, 2020, World of Hyatt has offered free parking on all stays for World of Hyatt Globalist members, and free parking on award stays for all World of Hyatt members
  • Since July 8, 2020, World of Hyatt has offered a 15% rebate on award stays for all members, and a 25% rebate on award stays for those with the World of Hyatt Card

In addition to the new Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion, keep in mind the other ongoing offers from World of Hyatt:

Other ways to earn World of Hyatt points

If you’re looking to earn more World of Hyatt points, the good news is that Hyatt points are pretty easy to come by.

In addition to being able to earn World of Hyatt points with the World of Hyatt Credit Card (review), you can also transfer over points from Ultimate Rewards.

Bottom line

World of Hyatt has just announced the details of its next global promotion, which launches the day after the current promotion ends. World of Hyatt will offer 2,000-2,500 bonus points after every two qualifying nights, plus the ability to earn a Category 1-4 free night certificate after 10 qualifying nights.

While it’s fantastic to see World of Hyatt introducing a new promotion without any sort of a break, it’s still kind of sad to see World of Hyatt’s current outrageously generous promotions come to an end, offering everything from up to quadruple points, to free parking, to discounts on award stays.

World of Hyatt leadership deserves a huge round of applause for the ways in which it has engaged members throughout the pandemic. I trust we’ll see some more good promotions in the coming weeks and months, but for the time being I’m just happy to see that we can expect something in March and beyond.

  1. Well, the October-February promotion was truly amazing, I earned over 100K points more than just normal earnings, and got globalist through 2023.

    This promotion is meh.

Theoretically the entire point of a promotion is to incentivize people to spend more than they would have, and I don’t think this does that for most peeople.

  2. Any promotion from now on will definitely pale in comparison with what they offered in the past few months 🙂 . But I’m about to wrap up my last stay which will get me to Globalist so I’m thankful anyway!

  3. Besides the double nights this actually would have been more beneficial to my recent stay. Been using a Hyatt Place as an office and did 12 night stay at $61/night. Ended up getting 24 nights plus an additional 8,400. That would have been 15,000 under this. Think I value the double nights + 8,400 more than the 15,000 for what I want to accomplish.

  4. Great promotion! I have a 14 night stay at the Grand Hyatt Dubai next month, so essentially it will net me 14K bonus points and a free night certificate in addition to the base points, Globalist bonus and milestone bonus points .

  5. Thankfully they’re ending the current promo. Don’t want too many globalists out there!

Agree that Hyatt definitely done a good job all around on their loyalty program

  6. While the previous promotion incentivized revenue, this one rewards volume. Personally, I’d much rather stay fewer nights at nicer places than hop around from Hyatt Place to Hyatt Place, so this promotion offers pretty lousy value to me…but I can appreciate what they’re trying accomplish (growing the sheer volume of heads in beds).

  7. @Josh Yeah, this promo really does not incentivize revenue. The last promo definitely rewarded spending, but also rewarded volume (double elite night bonus), status (Globalist parking benefits), and holding the credit card. It was so well rounded. All good things come to an end…

With the old promo, I was reluctant to use free night certs since points stays were 25% off. I guess I can burn them now.

  8. Do globalists still get free parking on award stays or is that benefit ending too? I stayed at the Andaz 5th ave twice in the past month, and the free parking was fantastic.

  9. Ben, any hunch on whether they’ll have reduced qualifications in 2022? I mean, I know they won’t slice it in half like they did this year, but… Just wondering. I’m currently at 79 elite nights, but I have severe doubt as to whether my travels/weekend staycations will get me anywhere near that next year.

  10. @ Tortuga — To be honest I think most loyalty programs don’t know what their status requirements will be for this year, let alone next year. Personally I think most major loyalty programs will still make status easier to earn in 2021 (or just extend it altogether), though I certainly could be wrong. From having spoken to leadership in loyalty at several programs in recent weeks, I’ve across the board been hearing that they’re taking thinks as they come, and it’s too tough to predict the future right now.

  11. What Hyatt did late last year was amazing, I’m now Globalist and am grateful for the opportunity. It was an extremely generous promotion and has to come to and end at some point. There was no way for this new promotion (March 1 – June 15) to be better than the last. Kudos to Hyatt for being generous and creative.

  12. If you can’t get Globalist with halved requirements + the generous double crediting of the past couple months + the roll-over from 2021 + ability to get CC nights…you should probably just get a Marriott or Hilton CC, get status that, way, and call it a day.

  13. What if I have a stay from February 28 to March 3rd (3 consecutive nights). Will 2 of the 3 nights count towards this promotion?
