World of Hyatt announced that it’s reducing elite requirements for 2021, and also revealed that it’s extending the current “Bonus Journeys” promotion, which initially launched back in October. I wanted to provide an update on all current promotions, to reflect the extension.

Hyatt’s “Bonus Journeys” promotion

World of Hyatt’s current global promotion is called Bonus Journeys, just like the promotion that ended on September 15. However, it’s not quite the same — Hyatt describes the current promotion as the richest ever, and I’d tend to agree.

Earn triple World of Hyatt points on all stays

The most basic part of Hyatt’s Bonus Journeys promotion is that you can earn triple World of Hyatt points on all stays worldwide, starting with your first stay:

  • Registration is open between October 1, 2020, and January 15, 2021
  • The promotion is valid for stays between October 1, 2020, and February 28, 2021
  • Members can earn a total of 150,000 bonus points from the promotion, while those with a Hyatt Card can earn up to 225,000 bonus points (accounting for the quadruple points promotion, discussed below)
  • The promotion is valid for stays at all Hyatt properties, participating MGM Resorts, Small Luxury Hotels of the World locations, and Lindblad Expedition experiences

There are some further terms to be aware of:

  • Previously booked stays qualify, so it’s fine if you booked before the promotion period started, as long as you register prior to check-out of your first stay
  • The number of points tripled is determined from base points, and members earn five base points per dollar spent
  • Bonus points will appear in your World of Hyatt account within two to three weeks (though usually much faster than that)

Earn quadruple World of Hyatt points at certain properties

Those with the World of Hyatt Credit Card (review) can earn quadruple points at participating Hyatt resort locations during the Bonus Journeys promotion period. This includes 375 resorts around the world, including nearly 200 Small Luxury Hotels of the World properties.

Earn World of Hyatt elite nights towards 2021 status

There’s more to this promotion. Every elite night earned during the Bonus Journeys promotion will also earn you one extra elite night towards status in 2021:

To give some examples of how earning elite nights would work:

  • If you stay 10 elite nights between October 1 and December 31, you’d earn 10 elite nights towards 2020 status, and 10 elite nights towards 2021 status
  • If you stay 10 elite nights between January 1 and February 28, you’d earn 20 elite nights towards 2021 status

How lucrative is World of Hyatt’s promotion?

World of Hyatt members ordinarily earn five base points per dollar spent at all brands. On top of that:

  • Earning triple points would equate to an extra 10 points per dollar, while earning quadruple points would equate to an extra 15 points per dollar
  • Elite members receive further bonuses — Discoverists earn an extra 0.5 points per dollar, Explorists earn an extra 1.0 points per dollar, and Globalists earn an extra 1.5 points per dollar
  • If you pay with the World of Hyatt Credit Card (review) you earn an extra four World of Hyatt points per dollar spent

In other words, during this promotion a Globalist member paying with Hyatt’s credit card would be earning 20.5-25.5 World of Hyatt points per dollar spent.

For what it’s worth, I value World of Hyatt points at ~1.5 cents each. That means 20.5 points would equate to a 30.75% return, while 25.5 points would equate to a 38.25% return.

Globalist members can earn up to 25.5 points per dollar spent

Hyatt’s 15-25% award night discount

Stays with Hyatt will be lucrative this fall and winter, regardless of whether you’re paying with cash or points. Back in July Hyatt introduced a promotion for 15-25% off award redemptions:

  • Those with The World of Hyatt Credit Card (review) can save an additional 10%, for a total of 25% in savings
  • This promotion has now been extended for stays through February 28, 2021
  • Registration is required by January 15, 2021 (if you’ve already registered, there’s no need to do so again)

It’s incredible to see this promotion extended as well, as it represents such a good value.

Hyatt’s free parking promo

Back in July Hyatt introduced a promotion for free parking:

  • World of Hyatt is offering free parking for all members on award stays
  • World of Hyatt is offering Globalist members free parking on paid stays
  • This promotion is now valid for stays through February 28, 2021

There’s no registration required to take advantage of this.

Hyatt has extended its free parking promotion

Hyatt’s triple points on dining promo

Back in July Hyatt introduced a promotion offering triple points on dining when not staying at Hyatts:

  • This is valid when you’re dining at a Hyatt outlet, not in conjunction with a stay
  • Only certain Hyatt dining outlets are participating in this promotion
  • This promotion is now valid for dining through February 28, 2021

There’s no registration required for this promotion.

You can continue to earn triple points on dining at Hyatts

Combine these with other Hyatt promotions

As if the above promotions aren’t enough, keep in mind there are some other opportunities to earn rewards for Hyatt stays, including:

There are rewards for staying at new brands, like Alila

Other ways to earn World of Hyatt points

If you’re looking to earn more World of Hyatt points, the good news is that Hyatt points are pretty easy to come by.

In addition to being able to earn World of Hyatt points with the World of Hyatt Credit Card (review), you can also transfer over points from Ultimate Rewards.

On top of that, World of Hyatt frequently sells points at a discount.

There are lots of great ways to earn World of Hyatt points

Bottom line

World of Hyatt has extended the incredible promotions that it’s currently offering, including being able to earn up to quadruple points on stays, free parking, discounts on award redemptions, and more.

Often loyalty promotions are marginal, but these are the kinds of promotions that will move the needle for me, and cause me to choose Hyatt over competing brands. Extremely well done, Hyatt!

What do you make of Hyatt’s current promotions?

  1. 2 questions:
    1) Do award nights count for double elite nights?

    2) do the rolled over nights count towards tier awards? For example if I do 60 nights between oct 1 and Jan 1 do I get another set of 1-4 cert, 1-7 cert, and suite upgrades on Jan 1

  2. @ Tony — Working on finding out the answer to your first question (I think the answer is yes, though). For the second question the answer is yes.

  3. These are excellent promos, and I’ll
definitely take advantage of them as much as possible. I would still love to see a status match or challenge offer. Getting fed up with Marriott, but their US footprint is tough to beat for business travel.

  4. @Lucky – I have a couple GoH bookings coming up, any idea if the 15-25% award night discount works with GoH bookings?

  5. @ Newbie — I believe eligibility is based on your checkout date, so I think you should earn the bonus for your stay.

  6. Wow, Hyatt is absolutely killing it. On top of the incredible promos, I’ve gotten several Chase offers for 10-15% back on paid stays (CSR and WoH). They make it feel dumb to even consider staying elsewhere if you have a choice.

  7. Wow! Kudos to WoH for the incredible promotion. Was contemplating whether to extend my extended stay, this promotion makes it a nobrainer for me.

Can’t wait to start out with 60 elite nights come Jan 1 2021 😉

  8. I updated the post with answers to frequently asked questions. Award nights do count towards earning elite nights for 2021, while elite nights earned through credit card spending don’t count.

  9. What will be interesting if one could get the real numbers is how many people actually took advantaged of this given the now resurgence of the Virus and now possible delays in getting the vaccine out. Of note it will take months and months for the vaccine to “take” recent polls indicate a hesitance in people to get the first round of vaccine in essence saying they don’t totally trust a vaccine that has been rushed to market.

For me no plans to fly anytime soon and thats coming from someone who averaged 130K a year business and pleasure.

  10. It took 21 posts but finally Debbie downer is here…
It’s a pity ghostrider won’t be taking advantage, being such a VIP and all.

  11. This is a really nice deal, but unfortunately I’m still not sure I’ll be able to take full advantage of it. I really wish the CC nights counted toward 2021 status, but I’ll take what I can get. 2020 Globalist is probably just out of reach, but 2021 is looking good now.

  12. Thanks Ben for always giving us the most up to date promotions. Excited to hear an answer to Tony’s first question regarding if points bookings count for both this and next year!

  13. does triple points include destination collection looks wyndhurst manor in the berkshires? In addition, does hyatt prive cover that hotel?

  14. trying to enroll for the extended promotion but it’s saying I’m ineligible. Is this because I’m enrolled in the original one? Do you need to re-enroll to maintain eligibility in the extension?

  15. Wow, this is fantastic. I moved out of my apartment and I’m living in hotels now. The only thing to wish for is for Hyatt to remove the cap at 100 nights for the milestone rewards.

  16. Also, I’d add that this makes Marriott’s promotion look pathetic in comparison. I had a 16 night stay planned but cancelled it. 2500/stay is terrible in comparison to what Hyatt is offering. Marriott – time to step it up ASAP!

  17. Well…whatever. So Hyatt has a promotion. And just exactly how many of us will be able to travel to take advantage of all of this? Some people are debating even going camping let alone a distant hotel stay….and frankly there are so many destinations Americans CANNOT travel to still that these sorts of promotions are sort of a joke. With boarders closed to basically everywhere……I guess you could stay at the Hyatt in Westlake Village, or Dubai, one of the few places we are welcome. In the meantime, it’s just another scheme that I suspect not many people can take advantage of. How about they do this when travel ramps up? You’d never see anything like it, because they’d be money hungry and NEVER offer any good promotion. Right now they are groveling for money and which way they can.

  18. Ben,
Tried to register for 25% extended promotion. Get the message that i am not legible for the promo. I registered for the promo before. Does that mean i am good or i still need to register again for it to get 25% on stays later this year.

  19. Not sure why you are so surprised with this promotion. We are living in a buyer’s market situation where customers (buyer’s) have all the power since there are very few of them. Hotels and airlines are begging for customers so they will do anything to attract them. Let’s see if there will be any major devaluations in miles and points in the upcoming years. I doubt it.

  20. “Hyatt describes the new promotion as the richest ever, and I’d tend to agree.”

    Bring back Faster Free Nights.

  21. @ Brian — Hah, fair enough. I think richest ever World of Hyatt promotion, rather than richest Hyatt Gold Passport promotion.

  22. @ John G — You know, you don’t have to leave the US to stay at a Hyatt. You can plan a staycation, take a road trip, etc…

  23. @ michelle — Yep, Destination Hotels qualify for triple points. Hyatt Prive doesn’t cover Destination properties, though.

  24. @John G If you’re bringing up the Westlake Village Hyatt in Thousand Oaks, you’re surely within shouting distance of the awesome Huntington Beach Hyatt Resort & Spa, Hyatt Centric in Santa Barbara, the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, or any of a number of Hyatts running up the PCH. Lots of opportunities there.

  25. If I have a reservation from September 20 to Oct 1. Is it eligible for this 3x/4x and rollover promotions? Historically Hyatt promotions are based on check out dates. Thanks.

  26. I did not register for the 15/25% rebate offer before because of the duration does not work for me.

Now it is extended, I am interested.

However, I got error message when trying to register the 15/25% rebate on the award night redemption, saying I was not eligible.

I thought this offer is open to every member regardless of status / holding the Hyatt CC? The only difference is those Hyatt CC holders get 25% rebate versus those non cardholders get only 15%.

Why would my account not eligible for this offer, which on Hyatt site already shows the new registration deadline and the offer duration.

  27. Just got a “not eligible” error when trying to register for the deal. It seems there might be problems with the website if you already have an award night booked. When I called Hyatt, the agent was able to add a note to the stay to indicate they authorized me to get 15% points back when stay is completed, but I need to call after the stay to get someone to put it through. But they gave me 2k free points for the trouble anyway. Just a note for those having issues.

  28. Do you know if they’ll extend the Hyatt Prive promos too? I’ve been itching to use these promos but the resorts I want to go to are still closed.

  29. If anyone is interested, I just cancelled a points booking at Calala Island from Feb1 to Feb 5. From Melbourne – not going anywhere.

As an aside Park Hyatt Auckland opens next week I believe

  30. Great news, if I can use it.

Any chance you have the list of participating properties? I was thinking of going at the end of Septmeber to Huntington Beach Hyatt but could easily move it a week to get the bonus.

  31. my partner and i still have four free nights (two accumulated from last year) from the hyatt card. promo or no promo, free or not free nights, we aren’t going anywhere in the foreseeable future with this virus raging all around us.

  32. Awesome post! Was just wondering if the leveraged points all count towards lifetime base points? If so it would help curtail the time neeeded to get there so…

  33. Richest Hyatt promotion ever? really? I guess none of excited rookies here remember Stay 2 get 1 night free with no caps, back in 2009 and earlier. considering the hotel crisis is now much bigger, Hyatt is throwing peanuts and dumb people thinking its gourmet.

  34. @ Micky D — None of the bonus points count towards lifetime status, as only the original five base points per dollar count.

  35. @ be — For the quadruple points promotion? Unfortunately that list won’t be revealed until promotion registration opens in a few weeks.

  36. There’s more to this new promotion. Every elite night earned during the Bonus Journeys promotion will also earn you one elite night towards status in 2021.

Does this include elite nights earned through Chase Hyatt credit card spend?

    In other words, manufactured spending.

  37. How is this more valuable than Faster Free Nights? Two $75 weekend Hyatt stays (in 2010$) yielded one free $500 Park Hyatt night. And usually picked up the old G2 bonus and if you picked the right location, another 1000 points for a closed lounge. So those two stays would also yield you a free Cat 1 night.

What exactly am I missing here?

  38. @Lucky, I have a 6-night stay beginning prior to October 1st but concluding after it. Would all of these nights count towards rollover, some—or none?

  39. Seems like making mattress run is worthwhile. Does it mean staying 3o nights will get me 60?
I want to pursue for globalist.
I don’t have neither WOH CC nOrany elite status at all with Hyatt.

  40. Nice promotion but don’t understand why Hyatt is discriminating between Globalist members and how they qualify?
Base points earned in Q4 should (like qualifying nights) roll over into 2021?

  41. @Lucky, does this promo apply to Andaz hotels as well? More specifically Andaz Napa? Also, I still have Hyatt Gift Certificates from some years back. Can I use this to pay and earn this promo?

  42. How about if you booked to stay on 12/5/2020 for 30 nights to check out on 1/4/2021 – would you get 60 nights upon check out credited into 2021, and, thus, instant Globalist?

  43. Hey everyone. There was a question about whether or not WoH CC $5,000 spend would mean the 2 nights count for next year as well. I spoke to a rep today who told me they do not count and this is only applicable for “butts in bed” nights.

  44. Just a heads up that the Prive ‘Third Night Free’ Promotion third night does not count towards status (for this year or for matching for next year under this latest Hyatt promo) since you don’t pay an “Eligible Rate” for the third night (the cost is technically $0). I reached out to Hyatt and confirmed this, as I just completed a three night stay on that promotion and was only awarded two nights.

  45. Lucky, was there ever any info released about which MGM properties in Vegas qualified for this (if any?)

  46. Hi @Lucky, I was hoping you can confirm/clarify the Milestone Rewards portion for me/all of us. For example, say you spend 30 nights during this promotion and earn the associated reward–the free night and 2 club lounge access award–would you earn it again in 2021 because you start out with 30 nights as of January 1, 2021?

    Thank you!

  47. @James 787 – that’s a really great question. This promotion invites all sorts of oddities like this.

Hyatt has the right idea: this is going to drive people like me to do a lot more stays in the next few months, when their hostels could most use our support. I’m probably going to begin next year with at least 30 nights. Hyatt should consider extending the 2021 “milestone rewards” program beyond the typical cap of 100 nights, because many of us will end up easily exceeding that amount through a combination of stays in 2020, stays in 2021, and credit card “qualifying nights” spend. I don’t think Hyatt really wants to cannibalize potential 2021 stays or potential WoH credit card spend just because they credit stays in 2020.

  48. @ James 787 — Since you’d have the elite nights post again, you’d absolutely get the Milestone Rewards for next year as well.

  49. Lucky, the T&Cs imply that a credit card free night is an eligible night (“award stay” is all it says, and it looks the same as the definition for elite night credit”).

Is your info that it doesn’t count recent or from earlier in the month. It’s a big deal for many of us since they haven’t extended the free night certs.

  50. Sorry, I think I misread your post. It’s the bonus nights that come from spend (separate from a hotel free night award) that doesn’t count.

  51. @ beachfan — If you’re talking about Category 1-4 free night awards (or any other free night certificates), yes those are eligible. What I’m saying is that if you spend $5,000 on a Hyatt Card and earn two elite nights, those won’t be rolled over to next year.

  52. @Lucky, thank you for writing such a comprehensive recap of this promo, and for following up on our questions. This post is a really valuable resource for those of us fortunate enough to have some business travel scheduled for this quarter.

  53. @Lucky – Thanks for all the good information. The one question that I didn’t see answered is “Do you need the newer World of Hyatt card to take advantage of this?” I still have the older card and I would really appreciate it if you could write about whether people should change over, and how to do that without endangering their account. I don’t need to worry about the number of new cards from Chase, but I wonder how long to wait between cancelling the old one and applying for the new one? If you wrote about that, you could include a link that would get you credit for any applications. Thanks!!!!

  54. Ben, do you have any sense of whether Hyatt will actually lower the qualifying stays requirement for each tier? For example, only requiring 45 nights in 2020 for Globalist status. Double nights for stays is all well and good if you’re actually traveling during this time…

  55. @Kendor, I agree, this will drive me to book and stay nights I may not have even considered—especially with the long term value I’ll be able to glean from it!

And for the Hyatt reps reading this, first, thank you! And second, I’ve cancelled my Marriott bookings and will be rebooking under Hyatt :)!

  56. @James 787 I am kicking this promo off tomorrow with a three night stay in the MGM properties in Vegas that qualify for the promotion, and am very tempted to extend my stay there by an additional three or four nights. Promo success!

If it becomes possible to travel to Asia this Autumn I plan to take my young kids and stay at the Hyatt on the Bund and the Park Hyatt in Shanghai for a month or two. We need some practice on our Chinese, which my son and I have been studying for the past few years.

I wonder if Hyatt will award a special prize for the first person who qualifies as a 2021-2022 Globalist… in 2020. 😀

  57. @Lucky or @Tiffany, a typo: “to be had with World of Hyatt his fall…” > should be “this fall”.

  58. Hi Ben ,

My question is they have a current promo of 500 points per night on hyatt new hotels around 98 hotels. If I stay 10 consecutive nights in one of participating hotels do I get 500×10 bonus points ?

  59. If I have booked a qualifying resort stay already and apply for the WOH card now and receive it before my check in date will I receive the quadruple bonus?

  60. Hey Lucky, in an earlier comment you confirmed that GoH (guest of honor) bookings would get the rebates, but I haven’t been rebates for an Oct 1 stay yet. Can you confirm with a Hyatt rep about this?

  61. So if I do 15 nights under this promo in jan I would get credit for 30 and that would make me a globalists for 2021? That can be done in combo with award nights?

  62. WOW! I might have to do that. Thank you for this article, this response and your body of work on this blog.

  63. @robert, when would your globalist status expire if you completed the 15th stay on Jan 31, 2021?

@Ben for elite nights through spend, I was told via Twitter with Hyatt concierge that the first $5k spend on my new WOH cc would count toward the $6k, 50k points sign up bonus AND I would get 2 elite nights toward 2020 and 2021 if I made the $5k spend in dec 2020. Is that your understanding too?

  64. @ Nick — If you spent $5,000 on the new WOH Card and you completed the spending in early 2021 then you’d get two elite nights towards 2021 status. If you completed the spending in 2020 then it would count towards 2020 status. Hope that clarifies it. 🙂

  65. Ben,
Last month I booked a 31 night stay starting in December 2020 and ending early January 2021. Will those 30 night get me the confirmed suite night awards? Then in light of todays announcement, should I change my stay to 15 nights?

  66. @ M — 31 nights checking out in January would get you 62 elite nights for 2021, which would get you Milestone Rewards, including four Suite Upgrade Awards. If you did 15 nights you’d still get Globalist, but not the Milestone Rewards for 40, 50, or 60 nights.

  67. Great promotions. Only if I can really exercise my vacation plan. Just moved my 7 nights GH Kauai trip from Xmas to Feb due to my resident county’s Covid rule changes.
But on bright side, just this stay + CC nights can make me Explorist again.

  68. @ Lucky, these are outstanding promotions and the very reason I’m currently doing a Hyatt mattress run. Do you worry that these promotions will mint too many new Globalists that will dilute benefits (upgrades, etc.) for other legacy Globalists?
