As I posted about yesterday, the increased sign-up bonuses on the Delta American Express Cards will be pulled today, around 10AM PT. Like everyone else, I tend to procrastinate a bit, but my family has finally submitted all their applications for Delta American Express cards, including a few this morning. Now that all the applications have been submitted, I figured I’d go over what we did, given American Express’ limit of four credit cards and four charge cards per person.

As a reminder, the following cards have increased sign-up bonuses of 50,000-60,000 miles:

My application

A couple of weeks back I applied for the Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Card. That’s because I had the Gold Delta SkyMiles Personal Card in the past, and had three other American Express credit cards, including the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American ExpressStarwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express, and Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card. I’ve had all three of those cards for a while and am not willing to cancel any of them.

I applied in mid-June, and the miles already posted.

Ford’s applications

As I explained in a previous post, Ford applied for the Gold Delta SkyMiles Personal Card and Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Card, and had no problem getting approved for both. He has already had the 100,000 Delta SkyMiles post.

My mom’s applications

The only American Express credit card my mom has in her name is the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express, so for her we applied for both the Gold Delta SkyMiles Personal Card and Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Card. She was instantly approved for the personal card, and as usual, has been delayed for the business card, but should hopefully get approved in a few days.

My dad’s application

Much like me, my dad has the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American ExpressStarwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express, and Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card. That means he could apply for one more American Express card, since he uses the other three cards on a daily basis.

This morning he applied for the Gold Delta SkyMiles Personal Card, and was instantly approved.

Bottom line

All-in-all, that’s a total of six Delta credit cards for us, totaling 300,000 SkyMiles. I’m impressed by how quickly the miles are posting, before the statement even closes.

There are lots of great uses of SkyMiles, so we’re certainly excited to redeem them.

What Delta Amex cards did you end up applying for, if any?

  1. Welcome to the dark side, Ben and family!!! 😉 Please don’t use them all for reviews of just Virgin Australia and Virgin Atlantic, there are other Skyteam carriers that need more reviews and information!

  2. Hi Lucky, I am really thankful to you for letting me know about this promotion. I relocated to US from India in May 2016. I am a FF with Flying Blue and with my past 2 trips to USA and 2 trips to Europe, I was able to get a free one way ticket from BLR – CVG on Skyteam. With just 2 months of my stay in the US, I was able to apply for Delta Skymiles Personal card with just my SSN. Even though my application was pending for over 3 weeks asking me to provide a recent pay stub and bank account statement, I was finally approved for this card yesterday.

  3. Where do I sign up for this again?

Hurry quick TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR ME TO MAKE $1000s from converting your clicks on my OVER 30 affiliate links posted in LESS THAN twelve (12) hours!

    It’s ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL about the conversions!

    Wow. Just wow.

  4. @ keith — Hah, I’ve done Air France, Alitalia, KLM, and Virgin Atlantic. Plan is to do Air Europa and Saudia, and then Virgin Australia using Virgin America Elevate points.

  5. Hey,

I currently have the personal platinum and reserve delta cards and the gold card for business. I’d like to get the gold personal card (with the 50K bonus), but I’m not led to the 50K bonus page, only an Amex landing page where I can “explore new cards.” Are the bonus miles only eligible for first time AMEX Delta users?

  6. These sky pesos are so difficult to use. With so many cards with sign on bonus for 50K miles or points available everyday, why bother???

If you do not live in one of their hubs, good luck with finding connecting flights to even their partner international award flights. Not to say their own biz class low level awards rarely opened up… Their award searching is also a pain in the a$$. when searching for partner awards. It shows lower level availability on flexible date calendar but then when you click, it brings you to an error page or only showing ridiculously amount of miles (250K for biz class award to asia??). What a joke! I have my last pool of sky pesos to use and then I will never do any business with them again.

  7. Jacob you have to open the application in incognito mode or in a new browser, you will still get the bonus if you haven’t had that type of card before.

  8. I applied for the Gold Delta personal card this weekend after a particularly bad trip with AA – had no idea they were offering an increased bonus. Nice timing I guess 😉

  9. Well, I got in under the wire for the Gold Business card. It’s 12:14 PM Central and it was still working using a direct link. Thanks for the promotions of this. I think it will be very useful in the future.

  10. Wasn’t going to apply, but at the last minute changed my mind. Deal is still good as of about 5 minutes ago. Good timing, Delta Gold annual fee is about to kick in next month, I will be canceling it unless I’m offered a retention incentive.

  11. What is the rationale for keeping 2 SPG cards (personal and business) after you got the sign in bonus?

  12. Thanks Lucky for the advice. I applied for the Delta Reserve card this morning and was given instant approval. Also applied for the Status Match on delta. I am currently with AA and would not qualify for the Platinum under the new Dollar requirements.

  13. Lucky, just FYI, your comment about only having four Amex cards is just a little (20%) off. Five is the norm now, and recently I had six for a very short time before I cancelled one.
