Marriott Bonvoy has just launched its promotion for late 2024, which is only the program’s second global promotion of the year. While it’s nice to see any sort of a promotion, this won’t be much to get excited about for most members. At least there’s an extra offer for those with a co-branded Marriott credit card…

Marriott Bonvoy fall 2024 promotion details

Marriott Bonvoy’s current global promotion is called Earn 2 Ways, and it rewards members for stays of two or more nights:

  • Members can earn 2,000 bonus Bonvoy points per eligible paid stay of two or more nights at any property globally
  • Members can earn an additional 2,000 bonus Bonvoy points per eligible paid stay of two or more nights at MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy properties

Registration is required for this promotion, and as you’d expect, there are some details to be aware of:

  • The promotion is valid for stays between September 10 and November 26, 2024, regardless of when they’re booked
  • Registration is required prior to your first eligible stay, and registration closes on November 12, 2024; if you’re having issues with the link, log into your Marriott Bonvoy account and go to the “promotions” tab
  • Only stays paid with cash qualify toward this promotion, so award stays (including Cash + Points stays) don’t qualify
  • The bonus points will post within 10 business days of checking out of a hotel
  • There’s no limit to how many bonus points you can earn (beyond the limit of how many nights you can stay)
  • You must select Bonvoy points as your points earning preference (rather than airline miles)
  • You can only earn this bonus for one room booked per stay (so if you book multiple rooms, you wouldn’t earn this multiple times)

Earn more points with a Marriott credit card

Marriott Bonvoy is actually running a second promotion, for those with a co-branded credit card. The registration and stay dates are identical, and those who are able to register can earn an extra 2,000 bonus points per eligible stay, meaning they’d earn 4,000-6,000 bonus points per stay.

This is available to primary card members of a Marriott Bonvoy credit card issued in Canada, China, India, Japan, Mexico, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, United Kingdom, United States, or United Arab Emirates. There’s no need to actually pay for your stay with the card to earn that bonus.

Marriott Bonvoy promotion for credit card holders

How valuable is this Marriott Bonvoy promotion?

The math on this promotion is easy. I value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents each, meaning that:

  • The promotion offers an incremental $14 in points per eligible paid stay of two or more nights
  • If you have a co-branded credit card, you can earn an incremental $14 in points per eligible paid stay of two or more nights
  • If you’re staying at an MGM property, you can earn an incremental $14 in points per eligible paid stay of two or more nights

So as you can see, paid stays of two or more nights earn anywhere from 2,000 to 6,000 bonus points. I think the most likely scenario will be that someone has a Marriott co-branded credit card but isn’t staying at an MGM property, which would be a bonus of 4,000 points per night.

That’s pretty decent, especially if you’re staying exactly two nights, and the property isn’t that expensive. However, for a longer stay at a more expensive property, this is a lot less exciting.

Normal Marriott Bonvoy points earning rates

Not factoring in this promotion, Marriott Bonvoy members ordinarily earn:

  • 10x Bonvoy points per dollar spent at most brands
  • 5x Bonvoy points per dollar spent at Element, Residence Inn, and TownePlace Suites

Then there are elite bonuses:

The above doesn’t include the points you can earn for credit card spending at hotels:

As a Titanium member with a co-branded credit card, I ordinarily earn 23.5x Bonvoy points per dollar spent. At a valuation of 0.7 cents per point, that’s like a ~16% return on hotel spending.

Ritz-Carlton Kyoto, Japan

Bottom line

Marriott Bonvoy has launched a new global promotion, so make sure you register. With this, members can earn 2,000 bonus points on all eligible stays of two or more nights, and an extra 2,000 bonus points for MGM Collection stays. Those with a co-branded credit card can register to earn an additional 2,000 bonus points per eligible stay.

I value 2,000 Marriott Bonvoy points at $14, so this promotion offers an incremental $14-42 return on an eligible stay.

What do you make of Marriott Bonvoy’s global promotion?

If I would stay at the same property for 10 nights, should I book it as one booking or 5 sepate bookings(2+2+2+2+2 days) to maximize the promotion?

Now i remember why I hate Marriott so much. I was in Germany and tried numerous times to register but got a popup that I wasn't eligible. Nothing under my promotions tabe. I was able to sign my husband up no problem, but the reservation was in my name. No phone number for Bonvoy so I emailed before my stay. A few days later they reply that they added the promotion but it's too late...

Too bad because this hotel almost changed my mind about Marriott. It was the nicest I'd been in in years (usually are old and dingy.)

I just submitted a long comment and went to a strange page and my comment isn't there...?

Won't let me register, says not valid but the reasons don't apply.

After registering, mine shows both progress meters.

Anyone know if this elite night bonus is legit? And how many we get per 2 night stays?

    1. Lee Guest

I just stayed 2 nights, and so far no elite night bonus. Just points.

  6. Marc Guest

The lack of bonus elite night credits is very disappointing! Can't remember the last global promotion that excluded this can you?

  7. Goldfish Guest

After registering, the current promotions shows a counter for bonus points earned and bonus elite night credits under Card Member Exclusive. Don't see anything in terms regarding bonus elite nights though...

Marriott question: if you have a reservation that overlaps the new Year, do all that reservations’s nights post for the following year or does it get split by calendar year,

    1. Ben Schlappig OMAAT

@ Marriott Marty -- Great question! It would be split, and through the night of December 31, it would count toward the current year.

  9. Saeed Guest

Does anyone know if stays booked before registration for the promo count? (for stays between the dates mentioned above).

    1. Ben Schlappig OMAAT

@ Saeed -- Yep, they do count!

Just another reminder why I HATE Marriott. I was in Germany, kept getting an error that I was not eligible. Tried my promotions tab and it was empty. Thought it might be because I was out of the country, but got the same error with my VPN. I signed up my husband on his account, no problem. But the reservation was already in my name but price had gone up plus we're trying to collect...

Just another reminder why I HATE Marriott. I was in Germany, kept getting an error that I was not eligible. Tried my promotions tab and it was empty. Thought it might be because I was out of the country, but got the same error with my VPN. I signed up my husband on his account, no problem. But the reservation was already in my name but price had gone up plus we're trying to collect points in my name only so we don't have to keep track of keeping points alive in both. No way to call Marriott customer service so I emailed them the day before the stay, saying it would not let me sign up. They finally get back to me a couple days later, sign me up but say it's too late to give me my $14 worth of points retroactively. Really??? After I just spent $2000 at your freakin hotel and am a Gold. I just hate them. And I thought maybe I'd be changing my mind because I will say this was the best Marriott I've been in in many years (most are old and dingy and moldy.)

Strange I have the CC promotion but not the other one.

None of your links to register work for me. Was able to log into Marriott directly and all was good.

    1. Ben Schlappig OMAAT

@ LovetoFly -- Yeah, it seems the registration links aren't yet fully working, but it does show in account profiles...
