World of Hyatt has been pretty light on global promotions lately, at least in comparison to their competitors. Their last major promotion was from November 15 through December 31, 2017, during which time they offered double points, which translates to five bonus World of Hyatt points per dollar spent.
Hyatt has just announced their first global promotion of 2018. Hyatt’s newest global promotion is called “More Bonus Points Night After Night,” and offers up to 25,000 bonus World of Hyatt points. The promotion is valid for stays between February 15 and May 15, 2018, and offers:
- 500 bonus points per night at Hyatt Place & Hyatt House properties
- 1,000 bonus points per night at all other brands (including MGM properties)
You can earn a maximum of 25,000 bonus points during the promotion period. Bonus points should post to eligible accounts within 2-3 weeks of a stay. Previously booked stays qualify, as long as you register for the promotion by March 31, 2018 (that’s the registration deadline).
Note that the promotion dates are based on your check-out date. That means that a stay checking in before February 15 but checking out after that date does qualify, while a stay checking in before May 15 but checking out after that date doesn’t qualify.
Personally I value World of Hyatt points at ~1.5 cents each, so I value this at a return of $7.50 per night at Hyatt Place and Hyatt House, and a return of $15 per night at Hyatt’s other brands. I’d consider this to be a solid promotion, especially given that you can start earning this with your first stay, and there are no thresholds you have to pass. A vast majority of members also won’t face any issues with the cap of 25,000 bonus points during the promotion period (which you’d max out after 25-50 nights, depending on the hotel).
As of this year Hyatt counts award stays as qualifying nights, so that means a free night redemption or a Points + Cash redemption would qualify for this promotion, and earn you 500-1,000 points per night.
I’d actually consider this to be a pretty solid promotion, especially for stays at properties that don’t cost too much. As a point of comparison, with Hyatt’s previous promotions you were earning five bonus points per dollar spent, meaning the breakeven point between that promotion and this is a $200 per night hotel stay (with the previous promotion being better for more expensive stays, and this one being better for cheaper stays).
While Hyatt has sometimes offered additional bonuses during promotions for those with The Hyatt Credit Card, they’re not doing so this time around. I’d still consider this to be an all around excellent card, given that it offers an annual free night certificate, Discoverist status for as long as you have the card, and more.
I’ll certainly take this promotion, especially now that Hyatt counts all award stays towards status.
What do you make of Hyatt’s promotion offering 500-1,000 bonus points per night?
