Aeromexico Is Introducing A New Business Class Product

A few months ago I had the chance to fly Aeromexico’s 787 business class from Madrid to Mexico City, and then connected on the same plane from Mexico City to Los Angeles.

Aeromexico’s 787-8 business class product consists of B/E Aerospace Diamond seats, which are the same you’ll find in American’s A321 business class, Qatar Airways’ A320 business class, Air China’s 777 business class, United’s 787 business class, Saudia’s 777 business class, etc.

These seats are fully flat and in a 2-2-2 configuration. This certainly represents a huge improvement over their 777 business class product, which consists of angled seats. However, this still isn’t exactly a cutting edge product, given that there’s not direct aisle access from every seat.

Well, it looks like Aeromexico is quietly introducing a new business class product, and it represents a huge improvement over what they offer now.

Aeromexico is taking delivery of their first of six Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which complements their existing fleet of eight Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

These new 787-9 aircraft feature reverse herringbone seats in business class. Specifically, they feature the B/E Aerospace Super Diamond product, which is the same product found on Air Canada, Virgin Australia, etc. Aeromexico’s new 787-9 aircraft feature 274 seats, including 36 business class seats and 238 economy class seats.

It remains to be seen what routes these new planes will be used for. However, with a fleet of just six 787-9s, they’ll only represent a small portion of Aeromexico’s longhaul fleet. As far as I know, Aeromexico doesn’t have plans to upgrade their existing 787-8 business class product, at least as of now, so it could certainly be worthwhile to go out of your way to try and experience Aeromexico’s new business class product.

I can’t wait to see what routes the aircraft will operate. I’d love to fly Aeromexico again, as there are so many great opportunities to redeem miles on them.
