Citi is an advertising partner of OMAAT

At the beginning of June I wrote about how Avianca’s LifeMiless program is offering a 25% bonus when you transfer points from hotel partners or Citi ThankYou. This promotion is valid through July 5, 2019.

This promotion can represent quite a good deal, though for a short period there’s an even better deal.

Transfer Citi points to LifeMiles with 30% bonus

For two days only — on June 27 & 28 — LifeMiles is offering a 30% bonus when you transfer points from Citi ThankYou. In other words, you get a bonus that’s 5% better than usual.

This only applies to transfers from Citi ThankYou (and not to transfers from other bank partners or hotel partners). You can transfer between 1,000 and 500,000 points as part of this promotion.

There’s no registration required, you just need to transfer points over the correct period. This bonus won’t be reflected on Citi’s website. That’s because this promotion is entirely being offered on LifeMiles’ end, so you’ll see the bonus when the miles post in your LifeMiles account.

Note that they list specific time zones that are eligible — “Thursday June 27th (12:00 AM GMT-6) and Friday June 28th (12:59 PM GMT-6).” So make sure you adhere to that.

LifeMiles can be a fantastic program for premium cabin Star Alliance award redemptions. LifeMiles also often sells miles at a discount, so there are lots of opportunities to acquire their miles.

Want ThankYou points? Don’t forget about this great offer

If you want to earn ThankYou points, don’t forget that the Citi Premier℠ Card is offering a big 60,000 point welcome bonus after spending $4,000 within the first three months of account opening.

This is one of the most rewarding Citi credit card for everyday spend, as it offers:

  • 3x points on travel, including gas stations
  • 2x points on dining & entertainment
  • 1x points on all other purchases

So if you are looking for ThankYou points, the Citi Premier℠ Card is tough to beat.

Bottom line

LifeMiles is transfer partners with Amex Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou, and Capital One, and they also frequently sell miles at a discount. So there are lots of opportunities to acquire these points.

They have attractive Star Alliance redemption rates, and also don’t impose surcharges on award redemptions.

A 30% bonus is about as good as it gets when transferring points, so this could represent a very good deal. Just be aware that LifeMiles doesn’t always have access to all Star Alliance award space.

Anyone plan to take advantage of this 30% bonus from Citi to LifeMiles?

  1. Hi guys, I have a question if a flight shows on United website but not on Lifemiles website is it a way to book it ?
    Thank you

  2. I’m tempted here… I’ll presumably make a star alliance booking soon for Fall travel and am mostly ambivalent between Citi/Amex/Chase (I have similar amounts of all three, but I find I earn Citi the fastest).

I’m thinking that I can still use most of the other Citi transfer partners (Air France, Virgin, Singapore, Etihad, Cathay) with Amex / Chase points, so I don’t feel like I’m giving up much flexibility transferring to Avianca with a nearterm redemption in mind.

  3. Hmmm, I just made a transfer from Citi to lifemiles (6:44AM PST, June 27), but only received 25% bonus.

  4. I very rarely see the $25 per ticket required booking/service fee on all LM award tickets. I feel that should be mentioned as that could play a part in just how good of a deal the redemption is (as it did on my ORD to MIA booking). Not a deal breaker, but I’m the guy trying to squeeze every last drop out of a redemption and this shifted the redemption value from good to OK considering ORD to MIA is a cheap cash flight.

  5. Just transferred (Thursday/27JUN) and only received 25%. Terms say they should accrue within 45 days.

  6. The page is only in Spanish/Portuguese – perhaps the 30% offer is limited to Latin American residents?

  7. Only received 25%. The T&C include this:

“The transferred LifeMiles and the LifeMiles bonus will be accrued no later than 45 days after the LifeMiles Partner reports the request of miles transfer.”

That seems to refer to all points, not just the 5% extra bonus. Let’s hope they fix this.

  8. The bonus does not show on TY website but I just initiated a transfer and instantly received the 25% bonus not 30%.

  9. I transferred yesterday and got the additional 5% bonus miles today. So it looks like the bonus is separate from the original 25%.
