Link: Apply now for the Amex Business Green Rewards Card
Amex has lots of great cards earning Membership Rewards points. While there’s not a “one size fits all” best card earning Amex points, I can tell you with certainty that the Amex Business Green Rewards Card is particularly unrewarding. I wanted to take a closer look at the card in this post, and explain why I generally wouldn’t recommend it.
In this post:
Amex Business Green Card Basics For November 2024
The credit card landscape is very competitive nowadays, and people will typically choose a credit card for any of a variety of reasons. Maybe it’s the rewards structure, maybe it’s the perks, or maybe it’s the overall value for money with the annual fee.
In the case of the Amex Business Green Rewards Card, I’d say the card is quite uncompetitive, both in comparison to other Amex cards, and in comparison to cards from other issuers. Let me explain.
Amex Business Green Card Welcome Bonus
The Amex Business Green Card is offering a welcome bonus of 15,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $3,000 within the first three months. Personally I value Amex points at 1.7 cents each, so to me that bonus is worth $255, which isn’t great, especially in comparison to other welcome offers out there.
Amex’s general application rules apply, though it is worth being aware that this is a hybrid card and not a credit card, so this card doesn’t count toward Amex’s five credit card limit.
Amex Business Green Card Annual Fee
The Amex Business Green Card has a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, and then it’s $95 per year after that. There’s no cost to add authorized users to the card.
Amex Business Green Card Rewards Structure
The Amex Business Green Card has a pretty straightforward rewards structure, as you can earn:
- 2x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent with amextravel.com
- 1x Membership Rewards points on all other purchases
A few more things to note:
- The card has foreign transaction fees of 2.7%, so I wouldn’t recommend making purchases in foreign currencies with the card
- The card has no pre-set spending limit, so this could be a useful option when making big purchases
- Amex Membership Rewards can be transferred to airline & hotel partners, so there are lots of ways to use these rewards
So many cards offer a great return on everyday spending or valuable bonus categories, so the rewards structure on this card is pretty lackluster.
Is The Amex Business Green Card Worth It?
I have a really hard time getting excited about the Amex Business Green Rewards Card, given that the card essentially offers 1x points on a vast majority of purchases. I’d say the card would be perfectly fine if it didn’t have an annual fee, but it does have an annual fee after the first year.
Therefore I can’t really make sense of the value proposition of the card, especially compared to some other cards out there. Let me share some of the cards I’d consider in place of the Amex Business Green Card.

Why You Should Get The Amex Blue Business Plus Instead
If you’re looking for a reasonably priced Amex card that earns Membership Rewards points, consider The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express (review) instead:
- The card offers 2x Membership Rewards points on the first $50,000 spent every calendar year (1x points thereafter)
- The card has no annual fee (Rates & Fees)
There’s simply no competition between the two cards — why would you get a card with an annual fee that’s less rewarding than a card without an annual fee?
The Chase Ink Business Preferred Is A Better Option
When it comes to $95 annual fee business cards you really can’t compete with the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card (review). This incredible card offers an excellent welcome bonus of 90,000 Ultimate Rewards points after spending $8,000 within three months.
The card also offers 3x points on the first $150,000 spent on combined purchases every cardmember year in the following categories:
- Travel
- Shipping purchases
- Internet, cable, and phone services
- Advertising purchases made with social media sites and search engines
You can also complement that with the other no annual fee cards earning Chase Ultimate Rewards points. On top of that, the card offers valuable perks like rental car coverage and cell phone protection.
Bottom Line
The Amex Business Green Rewards Card is one of Amex’s business cards that earns Membership Rewards points. The card has a small welcome bonus and an annual fee that’s waived for the first year, though otherwise the card doesn’t have many redeeming qualities, as there are better options out there.

Rather than getting the Amex Business Green Card, consider the:
- Amex Blue Business Plus Card, which has no annual fee and offers 2x Membership Rewards points on the first $50,000 spent every calendar year
- Chase Ink Business Preferred, which offers a massive welcome bonus, up to 3x points in certain spending categories, and great perks
