New TSA Pre-Check Airlines: Air France, Brussels Airlines, KLM, & More!

The two innovations of the past several years that have made the US travel experience substantially more pleasant have been TSA Pre-Check and Global Entry. As a reminder, TSA Pre-Check allows eligible travelers expedited security screening, where they don’t have to take off their shoes, or take their liquids or laptops out of their bags.


Meanwhile Global Entry allows for expedited customs & immigration, where eligible travelers can just use kiosks at immigration, rather than having to queue for an agent.


While Global Entry is valid regardless of which airline you’re flying, TSA Pre-Check requires flying certain airlines that are enrolled in the program.

Over the past couple of years the TSA has nicely expanded the number of airlines that participate in Pre-Check. For example, in 2016 the TSA added Aeromexico, Etihad, and Lufthansa to the programamong other airlines. Then in early 2017 the TSA added another 11 airlines to the program, and in late 2017 thy added another five airlines.

Five more airlines are now Pre-Check eligible

The TSA has announced that a further five airlines are now eligible for TSA Pre-Check. Specifically, Air France, Brussels Airlines, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Philippine Airlines, and World Atlantic passengers are now eligible for TSA Pre-Check (am I the only one who had never heard of World Atlantic?).

At this point passengers on the following 47 airlines are eligible for TSA Pre-Check:

Aeromexico, Air Canada, Air France, Alaska Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Aruba Airlines, Avianca, Boutique Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Cape Air, Cathay Pacific Airways, Contour Aviation, Copa Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Dominican Wings, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Finnair, Frontier Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, InterCaribbean Airways, JetBlue Airways, Key Lime Air, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Miami Air International, OneJet, Philippine Airlines, Seaborne Airlines, Silver Airways, Singapore Airlines, Southern Airways Express, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country Airlines, Sunwing Airlines, Swift Air, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin America, Virgin Atlantic, World Atlantic, WestJet, Xtra Airways

To be eligible for Pre-Check, always make sure you enter your Known Traveler Number at the time of booking. While there’s a chance you’ll get Pre-Check without entering your Known Traveler Number, the only way to get Pre-Check reliably is when you enter that number so you should now be able to update bookings on the above airline to add it (otherwise just provide it at check-in).

Registering for TSA Pre-Check

While you can pay to register for TSA Pre-Check directly, you’re much better off registering for Global Entry, as it also comes with TSA Pre-Check (TSA Pre-Check, on the other hand, doesn’t come with Global Entry).

I registered for Global Entry for the first time in mid-2011, and wrote about my experience at the time. Global Entry is valid for five years, and I renewed my membership in 2016.

Several credit cards offer Global Entry fee credits, where they’ll reimburse you for the $100 fee to join Global Entry. These cards include the following:

The very best way to get TSA Pre-Check is through NEXUS, which costs just $50 and gets you expedited immigration in the US and Canada, Global Entry, and TSA Pre-Check. You pay half the price and get the most privileges. But that’s not as practical for everyone, since there aren’t as many centers where you can enroll for NEXUS, since it’s primarily intended for those traveling frequently between the US and Canada.

Bottom line

It’s great to see more airlines joining Pre-Check, as it really can be a huge timesaver. I’m especially excited about Air France and KLM being added, given how many transatlantic flights they operate.

  1. Worth noting that Pre-Check in TBIT at LAX is most often non-existent. Despite boarding passes displaying the pre-check symbol, there is not a line in that terminal. At best, you can keep your shoes on and go through a normal metal detector (instead of body scanner) when carrying your paper ticket through after leaving your bag on the x-ray belt (with all liquids and computer removed).

    Huge pain.

  2. At TBIT if you don’t have to check luggage, it can easily be worth it to go through security in T4 and walk over if you have precheck.

  3. I looked up World Atlantic Airlines. Apparently they fly a small fleet of MD83s out of Miami to the Caribbean.

  4. From Wiki, sounds like a majority of World Atlantic’s business comes from DHS Deportations… I know there is a joke here somewhere about them being added to Pre-Check…

  5. I tried to update my KLM reservations with my TSA Pre-check number. It appears that they have not updated their IT unless I am missing something.

  6. I’m surprised none of the IAG airlines have pre-check yet especially British Airways with all of their frequencies and the fact that they cater to a business crowd. So my vote would go to all of the following OneWorld carriers plus Aer Lingus which are missing:

    British Airways, Iberia, Japan,Qantas, and Qatar.

  7. ORD has no precheck in T5 either. It’s a joke, you can keep your shoes on, big whoop.

    But maybe if there are enough airlines participating, so more Precheck passengers, this will get TSA to open Precheck lines.

I paid the $50 NEXUS renewal fee (which included Global Entry renewal) last year using the Citi Prestige card but didn’t receive an automatic $50 statement credit within the expected 4-6 week window. Since I should have been eligible for the $100 Global Entry benefit (hadn’t used it on that card before), I called Citi to ask about it. Apparently the NEXUS renewal charge coded differently than a typical Global Entry renewal charge, so the credit didn’t show up automatically. The agent processed the credit over the phone.

    At ORD, go through T1-4 and use precheck and a domestic AA/UA lounge if needed, and shuttle over to T5.

    For TBIT, there is a small side security entrance (just to the left of baggage claim on ground floor) that is often times 1/10th the size.

  10. Brussels Airlines has only one year-round destination in America (New York JFK) and this one’s not even daily as of now (6/w). but they are still participating in TSA precheck.
    Wonder what BA’s thinking right now, considering how they boast about having the largest US network for a non-North American airline.

  11. When I receive via Delta for my KLM code share from JFK to AMS, I never get PrrCheck…. Will change now?? Keep in mind that I do access the KLM website.

  12. @Lucky, are there any cards that will cover the NEXUS fee? I was born in Canada, but lived in the States for most of my life and still goes at least once a year by car and multiple times by plane. I had my global entry interview at YYZ and the agent asked how come I did not apply for NEXUS instead. I did not because AMEX comped the global entry fee. Since NEXUS is cheaper, it should be a no brained for credit card companies.

  13. British Airways is the biggest gap. Japan Airlines is the next biggest gap.

    BA is needed especially at JFK T7.

  14. Can I just verify- if I get NEXUS, which is fine as I live near Seattle, I’ll have full Global Entry privileges? Because it looks on the CBP website that that’s only when entering through Canada.

    I can confirm that NEXUS gives you Global Entry privileges. I have done it a few times, always successful.

    Isn’t it the case that Australians are not eligible for Global Entry ( or any other form of expedited screening) other than the mandatory but utterly useless ESTA…and this notwithstanding the fact that Australia extended use of automatic entry booths to US citizens more than 2 years ago. The lack of reciprocity is insulting but hardly surprising.

  17. When a couple of airlines joined a while ago I got excited thinking it would help with the crazy JFK security lines. Come to find out it does absolutely nothing. Yes…there is a separate entrance to the security area for Pre-Check but then you flow into the regular crazy lines and you still have to remove most of your stuff out of your carryon.

  18. Pre-Check is pointless, lines are often longer for Pre. It’s a sneaky way for DHS to gather even more data on people with a faux attempt to provide convenience.
