A couple of weeks ago Marriott Bonvoy revealed the details of its first global promotion of 2022, offering bonus points and bonus elite nights for every night you stay. This is a reminder that this promotion is live for stays as of today.
In this post:
Register now for Marriott Bonvoy’s 2022 promotion
Bonvoy members can register for Marriott’s global promotion, offering 1,000 bonus points plus one bonus elite credit for each paid night stayed:
- The promotion is valid for stays between February 8 and May 4, 2022, regardless of when they’re booked
- Registration is required prior to your first eligible stay, and registration closes on April 20, 2022
- The promotion kicks in starting with your first stay
- Only paid stays qualify toward this promotion, so award stays don’t qualify
- Bonus points and bonus elite nights will post within seven business days of checking out of a hotel
- There’s no limit to how many bonus points or bonus elite nights you can earn
- All hotels globally are participating, and there’s no minimum length of stay required to unlock the bonus

How valuable is this Marriott Bonvoy promotion?
While I wouldn’t say this is the most exciting promotion ever, it’s still pretty decent:
- I value Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.7 cents each, so to me 1,000 points offer an incremental $7 nightly return
- It’s hard to put a value to the double elite nights component of the promotion, since it all depends on what status you’re going for
- I’m happy to see that the offer kicks in starting with the first stay, and that there are no caps
1,000 bonus points per night is decent if you’re staying at an inexpensive Marriott property, while it’s significantly less rewarding at pricier properties. The double elite nights should help people to maintain status this year, though it’s also hard to get excited about that in comparison to Marriott just giving members elite nights equal to 50% of their status for the past two years.

Normal Marriott Bonvoy points earning rates
Not factoring in this promotion, Marriott Bonvoy members ordinarily earn:
- 10x Bonvoy points per dollar spent at most brands
- 5x Bonvoy points per dollar spent at Element, Residence Inn, and TownePlace Suites
Then there are elite bonuses:
- Silver Elite members earn 10% bonus points
- Gold Elite members earn 25% bonus points
- Platinum Elite members earn 50% bonus points
- Titanium Elite & Ambassador Elite members earn 75% bonus points
The above doesn’t include the points you can earn for credit card spending at hotels:
- You can earn up to 6x Bonvoy points per dollar spent on most co-branded Marriott cards, including the the Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card (review) and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card (review); on top of that there’s a discount on Marriott stays through Amex Offers
- Otherwise, you can earn up to 3x transferable points on hotel spending (with Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, or Citi ThankYou)
As a Titanium member with a co-branded credit card, I ordinarily earn 23.5x Bonvoy points per dollar spent. At a valuation of 0.7 cents per point, that’s like a ~16% return on hotel spending.

Bottom line
Marriott Bonvoy has launched its newest global promotion, which members need to register for. With this promo, members earn 1,000 bonus points plus one bonus elite night for every paid stay consumed during the promotion period.
This is a pretty solid promotion in terms of the bonus points it offers, and it should also help members to requalify for status this year.
What do you make of Marriott Bonvoy’s global promotion?
Thank You Ben
Will you go for Titanium Elite again?
@Bridget: No, only cash
Do you know if “points + cash nights” count?
How is anyone doing a platinum challengenow??
Why is Marriott so lame at brand offers like this?? - its like whack-a-mole if you are eligible. In my case, it shows up on the home page, but quickly disappears - when you use a direct link to register, it results with goes that overly generic "A Note About This Promotion" rejection page.
Register through the app. That seems to be easiest way.
Anyone know if this promo counts for lifetime elite nights as well? Because in T&C it says: ‘Elite Night Credits will count only the status year in which they are posted’
Can someone please help shed some light on this.
It will counts towards lifetime
Don't agree. It is really easy to value Marriott status nights. The difference in your benefits between Platinum and Titanium or Ambassador is not that much. Platinum gets the benefits that most people want such as at most non luxury brand lounge access, breakfast or alternatives, etc. Double nights could make it really easy to maintain 50 nights especially if you have one or two of the co-branded credit cards.
I agree w/ iamhere. I think those who don't value this promotion or who say it's hard to value elite night credits are likely those who either already have lifetime platinum or above or who have no doubt they'll qualify for platinum or above every year.
I'm neither of those and it can be hard to qualify for platinum but when I do I get real and tangible value via the 4p late check-out, free breakfast/lounge access, etc.
Can you stack two Marriott promos? I have the earn 2 free cert and bonus 1000/ ENC.
Thank you.
Managed to register for this (basically) useless promotion.
However, it seems a snarly cookie was left behind and I get a 401 error message any time I try to enter the site again from any direction.
Will reboot and try to clear the error or latent cookies but beware. Marriott surely has a problem with this site (or perhaps Ben's link?)
How is this useless?
Lifetime Titanium here, I used the Bonvoy mobile app and registered successfully in about 2 clicks. Sorry to hear others are having trouble . after reading all the other comments I was worried but thankfully mine worked OK.
If you're doing a status challenge, does the bonus nights count towards the requirement?
Not able to register for this promotion through your link. Said I'm not eligible
After being told I am not eligible I posted a comment on the Bonvoy Facebook post highlighting the promo. They had me message them privately and got me enrolled. It does appear to be Global but there is a glitch. This was fast and, given Ambassador lag times for response, a better way to get it done quickly.
First time Ambassador here. I signed up via the link in the article with no problem.
lately my Marriott stays have been at $110 to $125 / night residence Inn in small towns.
This should mean about 4000 points each stay. Luckily these hotels have same rooms for 10,000-12500 points and the max rate has been $200.
Marriott Bonvoy once again is very generous
Just like 2020 & 2021 they were fantastic
2022 is off to another great start with them!
Nights using points don’t count?
That’s correct
I'm mostly wondering how (if at all) this will affect Hyatt's future promotions (double elite nights?) and/or reduced night qualifications - anyone have a guess?
Why should Hyatt reduced theirs
Now, you can be denied your tier benefits twice as fast.
If you care about this issue, it means that you're still in this rigged game. And, if you're reading this article, you've also read all the other articles that relate all of the garbage the programs and the property owners pull. So, you deserve what you get from Marriott . . . or Hilton or Hyatt or IHG, etc. . . . and you...

Did anyone read the recent Hilton article on a different site? In the comments, there was a Hilton employee raging against Hilton members. And, while not expressed when one is on a visit, it is the typical view of loyalty program members by the property owners. Why would one want to stay given that?
@Reno Joe
You better watch out because @DCS
Has some amazing reasons on why you should be loyal to Hilton!
Lifetime Titanium and unable to register. I've shifted almost all of my stays to Hyatt and Hilton over the past few years so probably wouldn't have taken advantage of it much, if any.
Does an award stay with resort fees qualify as "paid"?
No.
Also, let's say that you book an award stay for X points and you pay $2000 to upgrade to that suite (that's available at check-in but they won't otherwise give you -- but, I digress). Now, you're actually paying for part of your room. Marriott's policy is that you DO NOT earn points on the cash upgrade portion of an award stay.
Another nail in an already sealed coffin.
Ambassador and Lifetime Titanium and it says I am not eligible. Lovely.
They know they've got you. They have suckered you for this many years and you keep buying it. Why would they? Besides, if you're a lifetime Titanium, what is it that Ambassador gives you? (Yes, there are the 50 and 75 choice awards.)
They have me to a certain degree. I am 300 nights in hotels around the world each year. Hyatt is my first choice. But even with Marriott as second 9due to sheer footprint) it still gets me to Ambassador. And you are correct, there is little difference with Lifetime Titanium. Perhaps a few more upgrades overseas.
Unlike a few of those on here I was able to register. Just happy that the promotion has something to do with earning more elite nights; is tipping the scale towards me going for Platinum again this year.
Although for me, the promotion says it will end on May 4, not May 14.
I'm seeing the same on the Bonvoy website; promotion ends May the 4th, be it with you or not ;-) (Stupid Star Wars joke...)
Similar to at least some others it isn't letting me register.
I am ambassador and lifetime titanium. Marriott won't let me register.
Any thoughts between this promo vs the Hyatt Bonus Journeys for upcoming stays since the promotions overlap? Point value-wise, the Hyatt promo is better, but the Marriott doubling elite nights toward status is tempting.
Why not both of them
Lifetime Platinum. While the promotion is nothing to get excited about, even less, when the site won't let you register.
They should just rename the program Marriott BS and be done with it
Just figured I would offer another data point. Lifetime Platinum and was able to register.
Just figured I would offer another datapoint. Lifetime Platinum and was able to register online. Last year I had to call for one of the global promotions, may give that a try.
1) I was targeted for double nights promo for January, so getting those for a stay right now
2) I think I will go for Plat with Marriott this year, so this should be a big help. Will definitely drive some incremental business from me during this time period.
"With this promo, members earn 1,000 bonus points plus one bonus elite night for every paid stay consumed during the promotion period."
You mean every paid night?
Considering taking advantage of this. We have a trip to the Maldives @ the JW Marriott Maldives coming up and breakfast is expensive. I can book a cheap room for 18 nights for Platinum status and get free breakfast when we go to the Maldives. Works out cheaper than paying outright for breakfast every day.
add me to the list of people who cannot register. ughhh. why does marriott suck so badly these days?
Registered and booked for 18 nights at the cheapest option in OKC. Will be enough for platinum status and free breakfast at our JW Marriott Maldives stay. Cheaper than actually paying for it outright.
LOL, 18 nights in OKC is cheaper than Breakfast in Maldives.
How long are you staying in Maldives?
Capitalism rules, who cares about poverty. Long live the 1% (and the greedy hotel that caters them)
Hahahaha
@Eskimo
We are staying 10 nights. Breakfast with tax was around $150 a day for 2. We booked mostly with points on a Cash+Points when Marriott was offering 50% bonus to transfer from Chase. I didn't have enough for a completely free stay, so had to cover 2 nights outright. My company paid for our flights to/from LHR-MLE as part of my expat package.
Double elite-qualifying nights is just crazzzzzzy. When the club lounges finally reopen they are going to be more crowded than ever. With no spending requirement for platinum and titanium, I would not be surprised if 60% of guests at some hotels are platinum, titanium or ambassador.
That what Marriott wants
Which is awesome for the business of hotel owners
This is exactly what they want
Good for hotel owners
registration does not work:
A Note About This Promotion
We're sorry, but there was an error in directing you to this promotion.
The reason for this error could be:
You're trying to access a miles promotion and are a points-earner, or vice versa
You are not eligible for this promotion
This promotion has expired
Not really anything to get excited over. The fact that it is only for paid stays is a tough pill to swallow for someone who just got the Amex bonus of 150K + an 85K night certificate. Platinum seems to be slipping away more and more every day
Wait how did you yet an 85k night certificate with Marriott
