Getting paid $150/hour to sit in the First Class Lounge
Upon landing in Frankfurt we walked to the First Class Terminal. Getting to immigration was a real hike from the gate we arrived at, so it was about 20 minutes before we made it to the First Class Terminal. It was my dad’s first time, so he was excited to say the least. Our A380…

Is the bath pic, before or after (or are you under the suds?) 😉
That Austrian snack actually looks good (but maybe I'm just hungry.)
Congrats on determining you were due compensation and actually collecting it.
Ok - you you can access the first class terminal when arriving LHFC and then traveling somewhere else LH biz? it just has to be LH right?
@David: Give Ben a break, he went to a barely mediocre state school and did not major in the liberal arts.
Thanks for the EU link. Saved it to gDrive. Come in handy when flying around in the EU in a few weeks.
Cool post. Thanks for letting us know about the ducks. I collect Conrad Hotel ducks but didn't know about these.
Should have gone shopping thanks to AMEX baggage delay regulations. 😉 I love it when my baggage is delayed - 1000 in my pocket!
It may just be a compensation from LH as you have to be an EU citizen to get the compensation.
@AeromanA380: Where does it say you need to be a citizen of the EU? I don think that is correct. Just needs to be departing the EU or if arriving in the EU needs to be an EU carrier or one from Iceland, Norway or Switzerland.
I so envy that your father can just sit there and enjoy the ambiance without the need to check emails, take pictures, check out the flights and keep himself busy
The important thing in this post is how a customer service agent in the famous Lufthansa First Class Terminal in Frankfurt could give FALSE information to a passenger after saying she had contacted a supervisor.
For in unexperienced flyer, Lufthansa would have been able to breech the law. The EU regulations are the law, and the airline certainly knows what its obligations are. Why can't corporations just do the right thing?
This post feels like deja vu, all over again. Could have sworn i read this a few weeks ago.
I am curious, - since the flight to Salzburg is in a two cabin aircraft, - what happened to other business class passengers (if there were any)? Where they bussed with everyone or had a separate business class van? I wonder how it is determined whether you are a first class or business class passenger on a two cabin aircraft. Obviously in your case it is because you flew inbound in First earlier that day. Would it work the same way if you had a longer stopover of a day or two.
Do my questions make sense, or am I understanding something completely wrong?
Thanks!
I had a similar situation a few months ago (re: luggage) with Lufthansa - only that time they literally forgot/didn't get around to loading ANYONE'S bags. So an entire transatlantic flight of passengers showed up with nothing. Really bizarre. Took a while to get it sorted out, but luckily I was arriving home so had most of my things there.
I'm curious is there a way to view similar compensation for domestic delays and for Asia/Australia?
@ Joe -- Right, if you arrive in Lufthansa first class and are connecting on a Lufthansa flight the same day you get access to the First Class Terminal/Lounge.
@ Vitaly -- Business class passengers got on the same bus as everyone else. You're considered to be an international first class passenger if you're connecting to or from Lufthansa/Swiss first class the same day. So they have a list of those passengers. If you had a stopover you wouldn't get the same treatment.
"Before I could finish my sentence my dad jumped in — “yes, it vas on za A380, it waz very nice.”"
Vy vaz your fader speaking unt English to za Jurmans?
@Lucky -- Seriously, man, stop hoarding the rubber ducks. Of the 4 visits I've made to LH First lounges this year they only had ducks in stock one of the times and now I know why. What could you possibly do with so many of the same "model?" I actually have two kids at home who play with them, so... I'll send you my address and you can mail me a couple. 🙂
So you're going to happily cash your check from Lufthansa (and boast about it no less) and take the money even though you openly disagree with the policy in that it is too generous. Seems like money trumps your ability to stand on your own principals. It's one thing to get info for the blog, but anything beyond that i.e. taking the money just seems disingenuous on you're part.
As I was reading this, I thought, "Wait, i thought you already posted this one before. Isn't this a repeat?" Then I went back up to the top and realized I missed the caveat that much of the content had already been posted! Guess I shouldn't skip the italicized part and skip right to the content next time!
@Evan, a law is a law, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with Lucky doing what he did. His personal feelings have no bearing on the situation whatsoever. If you get a last-minute domestic award ticket for 25,000 miles when the revenue price is $1000, you may think that the airline is being too generous, but that's their decision (much in the same way that EU laws are left up to EU lawmakers). There's no way anyone would call them up to say, "Listen, I know you have this PUBLISHED award chart, but you are really being too generous on this flight, so I want to give you 50,000 miles instead."
(And by the way...your indicates possession, while you're means "you are")
Hello Lucky - Another random question for you in possibly the wrong place. I appreciated your post about your experience on USAir Envoy Business class. My question is how you would compare that product with United's BusinessFirst transatlantic product? I have never flown USAir Envoy but then found a more direct routing on United BusnFirst. Initially I was interested to try out USAir but based on the routing convenience I may opt for United if the products are not substantially different.
As always, thanks for your advice!
KG
@ KG -- US Airways' Envoy is definitely a better hard product than United's BusinessFirst. That being said, the food may be a bit better on United. I'd go for whichever routing is more convenient in your shoes.
@ Nick E when you start correcting other people's typos (obviously out of pompous spite) you clearly have nothing better to say. Juvenile indeed.
And as for your example, there is a clear difference between purchasing something at a discount and simply taking money for which you principally disagree with the means by which it was obtained/offered.
Two whole days since the last installment published? What's up with that? Withdrawal symptoms setting in.... 😉 #keepthepressureon
Hey lucky, I like your blog, but have to admit I find use of the B word a bit offensive. Probably a minority view, but hopefully something you'll consider :).
P.S. those ducks look fun to collect - the pic of them in a row is hilarious!
Blue ducks!!!!!
Missed them by approximately two weeks. 🙁
Wife and I were in the FCT on 30-Aug.
(We did get two of the yellow ducks.)
BTW, really enjoy your writing and reports.

In LAX now waiting for 6 HOUR delay for flight to LHR on BA. How would one go about requesting compensation? I've got plenty of free time, so I can do it now. 😉
