Southwest 50,000 point offer is back for a limited time

In the interest of full disclosure, One Mile At A Time earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. These are the best publicly available offers that we have found for each card. Opinions expressed here are the author's alone, not those of the bank, credit card issuer, airlines or hotel chain, and have not been reviewed, approved or otherwise endorsed by any of these entities. Update: These offers for the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Business Credit Card and the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card have expired. Learn more about the current offers here.

Chase has officially brought back a limited time 50,000 point sign-up bonus on their co-branded Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Card after spending $2,000 within three months, provided you haven’t earned a bonus on the card in the past 24 months. The same offer is also available for the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards® Premier Business Card. The card has a $99 annual fee, which isn’t waived the first year.

While this is not an offer I will personally be taking advantage of (given that I prefer to earn and redeem miles for international premium cabins), I do think this is a great option for domestic travel, both for how generous the sign-up bonus is, and the 6,000 points you receive each anniversary which justify the annual fee. You can also earn 2 points per $1 spent on Southwest Airlines® purchases and participating Hotel and Car Rental partners, while earning 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Also keep in mind that if you rack up 110,000 points in a year you’ll earn Companion Pass with Southwest, which allows someone else to travel with you for the entire year. For domestic travel that’s a value that’s tough to beat.

  1. Quick ?

Is it possible to apply for BOTH a personal and business card from Chase in time for this promotion?

If so, is it best to apply at the same exact time for both cards or do one and wait some time and do the other (I’m looking to qualify for the Companion Pass in early Jan to have it for the full two years).

  2. @ Nate — You should be able to apply for the business and personal card on the same day. I’d do it at the same time as you shouldn’t have any issues.
