I have a bit of a complicated question. I have a ton of TY points from the Citi Prestige that I’d like to use up before I cancel next year due to the benefit changes. I’d like to use the points for RT tickets from BOS to LHR on BA metal through AA so I can get the 1.6 cent per point conversion.
My question is that if I buy the tickets via TY through AA, in the appropriate fare class, can I then upgrade using Avios from another account pending award availability?

Hi Kelly,
Generally not. If the tickets are issued through AA, you can only use AA miles to upgrade, and vice versa.
