During my trip to Zimbabwe, I intentionally planned a roughly 10-hour layover at Zurich Airport, to be able to do some lounge hopping, after getting off my SWISS 777 first class flight from Miami. My first stop was the SWISS First Lounge Zurich Terminal E, with Terminal E being the area for non-Schengen departures.

The bedrooms are the best part.

Great lounge overall.
This is one of my favorite lounges. Love the terrace, the a la carte dining, the bedrooms. It's all very nice. And every time I've been there, it's always been pretty empty and quiet.
I was just at the E‑Gate Senator Lounge a few weeks ago, and that's a very nice lounge as well, though of course in a different league. Swiss and Zurich Airport generally do a pretty good job with their lounges (minus the overcrowding situation in the A-Gate Senator lounge). It'll be really interesting to see how the new lounges turn out once they do construction on the A gates and shut the A lounges down.

I'm looking forward to the comparatively lowly LHR BA T5B lounge today. I guess I'll take a Talisker "Surge" whisky to that pink Whispering Angel Rosé room (if that's still there). Hope all has recovered at LHR after the troubles on Tuesday.
So smoking is not allowed on the terrace?
This looks nice. Hopefully the food is better than what's available next door, in the Swiss business class lounge. I was there just a few days ago and I wasn't impressed by the culinary oferring. The terrace, which is also available for the business class lounge guests, was wonderful. I was amazed to see that on that terrace they had Leica binoculars (which cost $500) for luxury plane spotting 🙂
The chance of getting a bedroom is very small in the morning. I’ve tried about eight times and only once did I get it even, when when I’ve arrived at 5:30 or 6 AM, but it is pretty sweet when you do score it!
For Julia, FYI, you can smoke on the outdoor terrace at the Munich Lufthansa first class lounge in the satellite terminal.
The fondue looks to die for
Wow, it'd be worth it for the terrace alone! Wonder if by 'weather permitting' they mean that it's closed during the winter, or if it's still open, just not when raining/snowing.
In my experience, I don’t recall ever seeing it open during the winter. It also remains closed whenever it rains.
The lounge staff explained that the decision is made by management, so it is out of their hands.
However, guests from both the Business or Senator lounges can also access the terrace, so it is not exclusive to the First Class Lounge.
For a first class lounge, the wine that they're serving is pretty average.
So are the whiskey bottles on display. I would rather walk to the Senator lounge, to the whiskey bar, which has very good selection of whiskeys.
Other than that this is really an awesome space to spend some time in.
Unless it's winter time, please do not order the raclette / cheese fondue in the Swiss First lounge. It stinks up the environment for others trying to enjoy a nice meal and is a clear indication that you've never been to Switzerland before.
Spent most of my time out on the terrace, loved it!
There doesn't appear to be any glass/plexiglass barrier on the railings, unlike what I've experienced at some US airports (eg SFO)
