Points valuation

Ben: You have mentioned in a prior post that you value. albeit subjectively, Hilton Honors points at 0.4 cents/point. I recently got the AMEX Surpass Hilton card which awards me 12X Hilton points at Hilton Hotels and 6X Hilton points at restaurants. If I use this card for all Hilton stays and all restaurant visits I am really getting 4.8 cents and 2.4 cents per dollar spent, respectively, at these locations. Am I missing something? This seems too good to be true?!

You’re not missing anything although there are other cards that provide better returns and/or flexibility, especially when it comes to dining.

And I believe part of Ben’s valuation is based on redemption values. HH points are incredibly easy to earn but it also can take a lot of them to redeem. One thing I do like about HH points is that you can redeem them for more than just a basic room. I often travel with two friends and we have been able to get rooms with a sleeper sofa and even a 2BR condo with HH points.
