Well, airfare pricing is incredibly complex, but I’d guess the main reason is Hawaiian is the only airline to fly direct from Papeete to Honolulu, so they are allowed to command a price premium. More competition typically means lower fares for consumers, and unfortunately there just isn’t competition on the route.
