520,00+ miles, curious how to use for 500 mile upgrades. benefits? strategies?

Well 500 mile upgrades are something you get as an elite member who has flown a certain number of miles. It’s separate from miles you earn by flying or via credit card. You can’t use your miles to get 500 mile upgrades. You can use Expert Flyer to check for available upgrades on AA flights and then call to use miles to upgrade yourself. Depending on the fare class if your ticket you may need have a cash copay as well.
