Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has been undergoing quite the transformation in recent times, including trying to become more premium. As part of that, the airline has just shared more details on a new lounge that it’s opening at its hub airport, which should offer a better ground experience for the airline than ever before.
Details of the new SAS Lounge Copenhagen Airport
SAS will be opening a new primary lounge at Copenhagen Airport in June 2027, which will be larger, more stylish, and with more amenities, than the old facility.
The new lounge will be located on the fourth floor of Terminal 3, and it will cover 3,700 square meters (40,000 square feet), making it around 40% larger than the existing lounge. It’ll have 1,095 seats, and will be able to accommodate up to 4,000 visitors per day. Unlike the old lounge, this will just be on one level.
The facility will feature panoramic runway views and dedicated spaces for working, relaxing, sleeping, eating, and socializing, including 24 private work pods, expanded shower and restroom capacity, and private hotel rooms (it’s not yet clear how those will be made available). There will even be a dedicated area specifically for SAS’ most loyal top tier customers, offering the an elevated lounge experience.
When it comes to food & beverages, in addition to the standard selection, the lounge will have a dedicated bar with barista service, and a bakery with fresh pastries, treats, and snacks. You can expect that this lounge will follow standard SkyTeam lounge access rules, so it’ll be open to SkyTeam Elite Plus members as well as SkyTeam business class passengers.

Here’s how SAS Chief Commercial Officer Paul Verhagen describes the new lounge:
“Our new signature lounge will be a destination of its own, redefining the journey. Designed with clean Nordic aesthetics and a calm atmosphere, it is built to give travelers space to breathe. Alongside our popular barista service, a fresh bakery, runway views, and a dedicated bar with signature drinks, we are introducing a very special Exclusive Zone tailored specifically for our top-tier customers – providing an elevated, thoughtful upgrade to the overall airport experience.”
“As passenger numbers grow and we strengthen Copenhagen as our main hub, this lounge reflects our ongoing development. Designed to handle high demand without feeling crowded – while offering dedicated spaces for our most frequent travelers – and connected with our recent re-introduction of European business class and partner lounge upgrades across Europe, it represents a very concrete step in our effort to improve every step of the journey for our frequent flyers.”
It’s great to see the positive changes at SAS
SAS has undergone quite the transformation in recent times, coinciding with the airline going through Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and getting a new ownership structure. Air France-KLM now have a stake in the airline (which is expected to grow), and we’ve also seen SAS move from Star Alliance to SkyTeam.
Ultimately nothing has been that revolutionary, but the airline has been making consistent, positive changes. The carrier has leaned into Copenhagen as a global hub, has brought back intra-Europe business class, and more. SAS has also announced quite the fleet modernization plans, including ordering Airbus A330-900neos, Embraer E195-E2s, etc.

Bottom line
SAS will be opening a new lounge at Copenhagen Airport in June 2027, which will be 40% larger than the old lounge. Not only is the additional lounge capacity great news, but it will also feature a new design, along with new amenities, ranging from hotel rooms, to private workstations, and more.
What do you make of SAS’ lounge plans for Copenhagen?
Generic beige lounge. Lost all aspects of Scandinavian design and atmosphere.
The seats and tables are very close. It looks spacious with the few people in the rendering but imagine it with every seat taken.
Premium Economy used to include lounge access while SAS was part of SarAlliance. That benefit has been cut.
The SAS lounges in CPH are the most underwhelming airline lounges I have visited (and I visited many). So it's about time that they do something about it. Good luck - but reading the comments it appears there is not much hope this will save the CPH lounge problem.
I am 99% certain this place will be horribly crowded as well. It'll look nicer no doubt, but what's the point when you can't see all the new things behind all the people and luggage.
It doesn’t solve a real problem, which is the lack of SAS lounge facilities in the non-Schengen part of CPH. The passenger experience for non-EU passport holders travelling out of Schengen from CPH on SK is woeful: unpredictable, understaffed passport queues (even pre-EES), which means needing to clear passport control earlier than at other European airports. SK’s peers at AF and KL have solved this at their home airports.
Referring to it as “Big, Beautiful…” may be accurate, but… *flashback* (can we please not?) I know, how SAS-sy.
Is it gonna be big or yuge though?
Who might the top tier customers be? EBD and Pandeon? Or just Pandeon? AFKL usually only lets Ultis (+ La Premiere) into the aquariums.
I assume Gold will be excluded since they just went through discontinuation of gold lounges across the networks.
It will be EBD and Pandion, announced by SAS.
Diamond is the new Gold, Gold is the new silver. I hope they manage to keep the number of diamond members at a manageable level, as this place will be crowded as heck
The EBD numbers in Scandinavia weren’t going to hold up very well under the pre-Covid arrangements, so SAS recently even did an executive business credit card to supplement the other means for SAS’s home market customers to rack up points toward SAS elite status. At the end of the day, I expect EBD to be more like the old EBGold, EBG to be more like the old Silver but this done in a way to boost revenue from non-flight activity and cut costs incurred from its own elite status base.
I am hoping the new lounge has a stairway/elevator shortcut to the front of an “All Passports” passport control line, but that is just a wish at this point.
EBD and EBP.
