New Delta One Business Class Soft Product (Meals, Service, Etc.) Rolling Out Soon

New Delta One Business Class Soft Product (Meals, Service, Etc.) Rolling Out Soon

Airlines never stop investing in their passenger experience, as it’s a never-ending process. At the moment, we know Delta is trying to step up its game on long haul flights, and this includes new lounges, new seats, and more.

While details remain limited, we’re also now learning that Delta will soon be rolling out a new soft product in business class, so we can expect new meals, service, amenities, etc.

Delta’s new business class meals & service launch soon

JonNYC reports that Delta will begin training flight attendants next week for the next generation Delta One experience. The expectation is that this will be rolled out progressively, initially as of this fall for long haul flights out of Los Angeles (LAX), with it expanding to most long haul flights at some point in 2027.

A new soft product would be separate from the hard product investments we’re seeing right now. We know that Delta will take delivery of its new “flagship” Airbus A350-1000s as of 2027, and they’ll feature new business class suites. The airline is also taking delivery of A350-900s and A330-900neos with larger premium cabins, as well as retrofitting existing A330s with new cabins.

Delta will soon roll out a new A350 business class

What changes could we see in Delta business class?

As of now, we can only speculate as to what the new Delta One business class soft product will entail. To start, I have a couple of thoughts.

First, I imagine this will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary, given that Delta has been investing in its soft product in recent times. For example, in recent times we’ve seen the airline roll out Missoni bedding, amenity kits, etc. Delta is smart in how it invests in its product — it loves to introduce service items that will get people talking, especially in partnership with luxury brands.

Second, I have to imagine that Delta is feeling the pressure from United, especially as Delta is trying to catch up with its international network. Even though Delta executives try to play it cool, they must be trying to do something innovative here, that they think will beat what United offers.

With that in mind, I think there are some obvious areas that Delta could invest:

  • I imagine we’re going to see new tableware and glasses introduced, since those haven’t been overhauled in a long time
  • Maybe we’ll see an all-new service concept rolled out; could we see dine on demand in business class, or more of a restaurant style experience, with dishes being placed directly on tray tables, rather than being served on trays?
  • Could we see a substantial investment in the quality of food and drinks? Delta does a reasonable good job with this, but I think there’s definitely some room to “shine”
Delta has already invested in its business class amenities

Bottom line

Delta will shortly begin training flight attendants on service changes in business class. The expectation is that these will be rolled out as of the fall of 2026 out of LAX, and will then progressively be expanded through the rest of the network in 2027.

Delta is introducing new and updated business class seats, but the goal is also to improve the soft product. It remains to be seen what exactly that includes, but I expect we’ll see updates to the food, drinks, presentation, service flow, etc.

What are you expecting from the updated Delta One service?

I'd rather have bedding by Torquemada and meal service from Lucrezia Borgia than fly on the worst and most evil airline in the world.

You do realize thar TD appears not to be on this forum anymore, right, so why bait him? I don't have a good handle on your previous posts about DL, so I really don't know why you hate DL (but I do like the Torquemada and Borgia references). Care to expound?

Given that you are ORD-based, are there airlines you actually like? Are you a fan of UA or AA? One or more international carriers? I am genuinely curious as to your reasoning.

DL and UA battling it out as the Big US 2...pros and cons with both. AA a distant third.

(wow...balanced conversation w/o a certain failed former analyst dominating with endless 1,000 words posts, repeating misinformation, trashing everyone who praises UA or criticizes DL...OMAAT upgrade indeed, great job Ben!!!)

For me, serving dishes directly onto my tray table versus a nice tray adds no value and seems as if it could slow down service.

I really like Delta. DL and AS are my go-to. Having said that....yes all of these improvements are sorely needed. I hope that the new seats are wider. DL1 seats across the fleet feel tight and are not especially comfortable after a couple hours.

    Delta already offers express dining.

Delta's bedding is too new to be replaced.

Same for the cutlery and glassware. That's a huge investment.

I think we're more likely to see a marginal improvement in wine -- the current wines are awful for what Delta charges and tries to be -- and an improvement to service flow for non-express dining; that is food served directly and not on trays, especially on flights over a certain distance.

I really hope they keep the Alessi champagne glasses. But they can scrap just about everything else lol

How about meals that aren't actually WORSE than domestic First. They add appetizers, but then the entree choices are worse than the choices for domestic. I just got the menu for ATL-HND and the choices were depressing. The japanese meal was a joke. It's my own damn fault for not flying ANA or JAL. But please, do better Delta and soon. And, of course, I'm leaving from Atlanta so no D1 lounge to feed me before departure.

I haven't flown D1 in a while but have an upcoming trip soon. I agree with all the comments about narrow seats and would add my own comment about narrow footwells. I may be the odd man out here but I don't care much about internet service on board--it's actually nice to disconnect for a while.

I would hope DL ups its beverage game. Over the years, I have experienced their not having a listed French Burgundy on a flight that originated in Paris (and they had no other good French wines) and, on a different flight, having only one 50 mL bottle of a premium Scotch on their list on board the plane! (My friend, who was in 1A got it on the initial beverage service; I was in 2A and it was already gone when they got to me!). And, as others have pointed out, the wines they list just aren't that interesting. For what Delta charges for D1, they NEED a better beverage list. More importantly, it seems that just listing good wine and liquor doesn't make the grade; they must also load it onto the planes in sufficient quantity.

I am looking forward to trying out the DeltaOne dedicated check-in area and lounge at SEA. I have heard good things, particularly about the lounge.

The beverage program is where the most improvement is desperately needed. Both wine and cocktails.

The seats on the A330-200/300, B767-300/400ER fleets are terrible, outdated (764s are newer, but narrow). All the soft product in the world cannot make up for a 2009-vintage hard product.

    1. BradStPete Diamond

Agreed. I don't know why but DL D1 seats feel tight, especially at the shoulder. I am 5'8 and average build. I don't have the same experience with AF.

I'm happy any time Delta pushes on their soft product in the hopes that United will, in some way, improve.

Specifically on the hard product side, Delta's previous leadership on customer experience (IFE, seats, etc.) has been frequently replicated (and in some cases surpassed like with Starlink). However, food quality continues to be SUCH a lagging area - like, they're not even in the same playing field. And while United used to have quite good...

However, food quality continues to be SUCH a lagging area - like, they're not even in the same playing field. And while United used to have quite good food in their Polaris lounges, I feel like even that has fallen behind.

Honestly if Delta had a compelling enough and leading business class compared to United, I'd likely try it at some point despite being a United loyalist in Chicago. Currently I don't find Delta One to be good enough to justify not flying United (whereas I've flown Q Suites and Singapore business class because of their objective superiority) given loyalty and mile earning tradeoffs. But with a good enough soft product that could change.

I am an Atlanta captive and have held 360 or Diamond status for well over a decade, but have moved almost everything to United or Qatar. Unless I am under a tight timeline to get somewhere, it's just not even a close decision any more.

Delta Wifi is so universally inconsistent and they've cut back on F&B while the others have just continued to raise the bar. Wine is the most obvious example (and I won't compare Qatar) but United poured fairly hard to get, $160 bottle of The Mascot on a flight earlier this year, versus a $16 Chilean cab that DeltaOne was proudly featuring. I would welcome any improvements, but won't be changing my travel any time soon.

    1. jetset Diamond

United has really massively stepped up their wine game - even compared to many European carriers.

I'm surprised the food situation doesn't bother you though. I'm nearing MM on United, current 1K and variously Global Services or 1K and I still can't stand their food (in United Clubs and onboard in Polaris). The quality is so poor since COVID and every time they market improvements they feel barely marginal. United Clubs in particular are horrible.

How can you say “ New Delta One Business Class Soft Product (Meals, Service, Etc.) Rolling Out Soon” if you have absolutely zero information to report? What new meals? What new service? Clickbait trash drives people away from websites long term for short term clicks.

    1. Ben Schlappig OMAAT

@ BjornFree -- Because it's 100% a given that there will be *some* updates to the meals, service, etc. That's *always* the case when airlines fully overhaul their soft product in a cabin. If I end up being wrong on that, you can absolutely roast me...

  14. TMCS Guest

I don’t think that Delta is competing with United. It is great that the airline is refreshing its soft products. It will be interesting to see what brand Delta goes with for its amenity kits. I agree though, a new menu and table wear would be most appreciated.

  15. 1990_ Platinum

Oh, JonNYC... with his 'hot-takes'... sure, sure, some "new cabin staff" or whatever... LOL.

  16. Super Diamond

I'm surprised that Delta hasn't gotten the message that the two single biggest CSAT ROIs they can make right now are replacing their ancient hard product(s) and getting true high-speed internet.

    JonNYC for the scoop again!

He should *sell* access to his intelligence, he's that good!

    1. 1990_ Platinum

Naw, naw... he's doing a public service... (Besides, he's got decent Simpsons memes, too. I will say, I miss his previous 'Eat up, Martha' profile.)
