Four Seasons has just announced the details of its next Caribbean resort, which is expected to open in 2026.

Four Seasons resort coming to Dominican Republic

Plans have just been formally announced for Four Seasons Resort and Residences Dominican Republic at Tropicalia. The luxury destination will be located on a 60-acre site, along the beachfront of Playa Esmeralda, in the northeastern Dominican Republic, at the southern shores of Samaná Bay. Construction on the property is already underway, and it’s expected to open in 2026. Tropicalia is the private estate of the Cisneros family, which is behind the development of the resort.

Here’s what we know so far about the new Four Seasons:

  • The resort will boast 95 guest rooms and suites, plus 25 private residences (each three or four bedrooms)
  • The property will have a spa, fitness, and wellness facilities, including a yoga pavilion, tennis, and pickleball
  • The resort will have a variety of beach activities and water sports
  • Onsite culinary offerings will include numerous restaurants and bars, made up of a specialty restaurant, beachside grill, poolside bar, ceviche bar, juice bar, marketplace, sundry shop, coffee shop, and rum bar
  • As is standard at Four Seasons, the resort will have a Kids For All Seasons club for children
  • Best I can tell, the resort will be a roughly 2.5 hour drive from Santo Domingo Airport (SDQ)

There will be a lot to do in the area:

  • Aquatic activities include scuba diving, catamaran tours, sailing, sea turtle expeditions, whale watching, and more
  • Land excursions will include Los Haitises National Park, mangrove forests, ancient caverns, and lots of wildlife

How this fits into Four Seasons’ Caribbean portfolio

Four Seasons currently has around 125 hotels and resorts around the globe. The brand doesn’t have a huge presence in the Caribbean, and currently has properties in Anguilla, Bahamas, and Nevis.

Four Seasons has a bigger presence in Mexico, with its properties in Los Cabos, Mexico City, Punta Mita (including the Four Seasons Naviva), and Tamarindo. Meanwhile in Central America, Four Seasons already has a property in Costa Rica. Furthermore, the Four Seasons Caye Chapel is expected to open in 2024 in Belize, and should be pretty spectacular, as it’s a private island with overwater bungalows.

The Four Seasons Caye Chapel is opening in 2024

Currently the Dominican Republic’s most luxurious property is Amanera, so I imagine the Four Seasons will give that property a run for its money (though Aman properties are a bit more boutique).

Bottom line

The Four Seasons Dominican Republic at Tropicalia is expected to open in 2026, and will feature guest rooms, suites, and private residences. This will be Four Seasons’ first property in the Dominican Republic, and complements the three properties that the brand already has in the Caribbean.

I’m curious to see how this project develops, as it’ll be a few years before it opens.

What do you make of Four Seasons’ new Dominican Republic property?

They have Costa Rica in Central America already, which is omitted above.

Looks like about a 90-min drive from PUJ up the coast, which is the primary airport for the Club Med just to the west.

    Looks pretty nice...

Was thinking of a Carribbean couples getaway. Has anyone been to the Nevis or Anguilla Four Seasons? How is it?
