Delta Flash Sale To Bermuda & The Caribbean, Starting At Just 12,000 Miles Roundtrip

Delta doesn’t publish an award chart, which is largely annoying, since you never know how many miles they’ll want for a ticket. However, sometimes it’s not all bad news, as Delta has unadvertised award sales (or something).

At the moment Delta SkyMiles is offering cheap award tickets for travel to Bermuda and the Caribbean, with tickets starting at just 12,000 miles roundtrip. Ordinarily award tickets between the mainland US and Caribbean cost 35,000 miles, so this represents a significant discount. Thrifty Traveler has all the details.

We’re seeing discounted awards for travel to Aruba (AUA), Bermuda (BDA), Havana (HAV), Montego Bay (MBJ), Nassau (NAS), Punta Cana (PUJ) San Juan (SJU), Santo Domingo (SDQ), St. Maarten (SXM), St. Thomas (STT), and Turks & Caicos (PLS).

The pricing varies by origin and based on when you travel, and 12,000 miles roundtrip is just the starting price.

Here are some examples of the roundtrip pricing that’s available:

  • New York to Bermuda for 12,000 miles
  • Boston to Turks & Caicos for 14,000 miles
  • New York to St. Thomas for 18,000 miles

There’s a huge amount of variance in terms of the pricing, but availability is surprisingly good when you take into account how good the starting award costs are.

There’s award space available between May of this year and the end of the schedule, though in general availability is best for travel next January through March.

Anyway, if you are considering a getaway to Bermuda or the Caribbean, definitely check out Delta’s award ticket pricing, as it’s quite attractive in many cases.

To balance that, though, I’d also note that paid fares are often quite reasonable, and many of these routes have high taxes and fees (there are no carrier imposed surcharges, though). For example, a ticket to Bermuda has over $100 in taxes & fees, and in many cases a revenue ticket is only $300 roundtrip. So you’re getting very good value for your SkyMiles, but not unheard of value.

Anyone considering booking a SkyMiles award ticket to one of these destinations?

  1. Wow… There’s some 22K from LAX and OAK as well (to PLS in Jan).

Can anyone please rank these locations by LEAST ravaged by hurricanes in the past 24 months!?

  2. Just booked ORD -> HAV for 12k miles + $77 in taxes round-trip – pretty thrilled about this!

  3. @Dogtor, was in NAS this weekend. The place is gorgeous and unaffected by the last year’s hurricanes. Just beware there is a 7.5% VAT and mandatory gratuity at the resorts. It was a little pricey, but great weekend away from the East Coast.
