The Amex Offers program often has promotions that can save you money on hotel stays, especially with co-brand credit card partners Hilton and Marriott. American Express has now rolled out a new offer for Marriott stays, which could save cardmembers up to $50.

Spend $250+ at Marriott, get $50 back

There’s a targeted Amex Offers deal for stays at Marriott family properties over the next few months:

  • Save $50 when you spend $250+ across one or more transactions (up to 20% back)
  • This is valid when you pay for your stay between January 10 and March 31, 2022
  • This is valid for stays at properties in the US, US territories, the Caribbean, Canada, and Mexico
  • The offer excludes Marriott Vacation Club, Design Hotels, Protea Hotels, Marriott Executive Apartments, Homes & Villas by Marriott International, and Vistana Signature Experiences
  • This offer excludes gift card purchases, online retail purchases, and purchases of Marriott Bonvoy points
  • The terms state that you need to book directly with Marriott to take advantage of this (though a Marriott STARS booking should qualify, since you’re billed directly by the hotel)
  • You can combine this with any promotion being offered directly by Marriott, including any Marriott Bonvoy global promotion
  • Registration is required

Bottom line

There’s a new Amex Offers deal for stays at Marriott properties, which could save you up to 20%, for a total of up to $50 in savings. The Amex Offers program continues to offer so much value, and is a reason to hold onto as many Amex cards as possible.

Ideally, you’ll see this offer on a co-branded Marriott card, like the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card (review) or Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card (review), so that you can earn 6x points on your stay while also earning cash back.

Was your account targeted for this Amex Offer, and do you plan on taking advantage of it?

will this work on prepaid rates offered by marriott.com?

    Thank You Mr. Schlappig

I had a "Spend $200 or more, get $50 back" for my Platinum that expired in Dec. This benefit is a little less generous as you need to spend $250 to get $50 back but I will use it again.

Got the offer on my Bonvoy Brilliant, will use it for a stay in March. I think I get at least two of these a year on that card. Useful card to hold.

  5. Randy Gold

Got the offer. I do not have a Marriott affiliated AmEx card.

    Does this work with FHR?

    1. Ben Schlappig OMAAT

@ Lou -- Not if you make a prepaid booking, since that's billed by FHR. However, if you pay at the hotel (in which case you wouldn't earn 5x points) then it should work.

It could work if you prepay 5x with Amex FHR and have $250+ in incidental charges (after all credits)

I love how yesterday or the day before there is an article bashing Marriott then today there is an article promoting Marriott's co-branded credit cards. Come on. Just like IHG. One article bashing IHG then another promoting some new IHG credit card offer. If One Mile at a Time, The Points Guy or View from the Wing really wanted Marriott to change its ways and bad practices, it would STOP promoting Marriott credit cards until there is a real policy change.

You can’t be that naive, can you?

They’re all in business to make money, and no other reason.

Why did you think they were doing this?

@ FNT Delta Diamond -- I don't think it has to be one or the other, and frankly this doesn't even have anything to do with blogging being my business.

For example, I've been frustrated by many experiences at Marriott properties and I'm staying at them less than in the past, but I still have a lot of points to burn. I just made a points booking for an upcoming stay at a property...

For example, I've been frustrated by many experiences at Marriott properties and I'm staying at them less than in the past, but I still have a lot of points to burn. I just made a points booking for an upcoming stay at a property I really like (not all Marriotts are created equal), and this offer will come in handy, as I'll save money on incidentals.

You don't have to be a huge fanboy of a program in order to want to maximize value. That applies here as well. What should I do, boycott Marriott by not redeeming the points I've already earned for stays at properties I like?

Targeted on my Hold and will be using it this weekend!

Just checked my AMEX Gold, AMEX Platinum, Bonvoy and Bonvoy Business no offers... sadly

Targeted on my amex platinum, and I'll be making use of it this week!
