Buy World Of Hyatt Points For 20% Off (2.08 Cents Each): Worth It?

World of Hyatt is offering a promotion on purchased points. With this, members can purchase points with up to a 20% discount, which is an opportunity to acquire them for 2.08 cents each. World of Hyatt is a useful points currency, and there’s definitely value to be had here for some, especially if you don’t have access to World of Hyatt points via transferable points currencies.

However, let me of course remind everyone that Hyatt recently introduced more dynamic award pricing, and in many cases it’s really bad for redemption values. Still, there are definitely ways to come out ahead while taking advantage of this offer, though everyone should crunch the numbers for themselves.

Promotion on purchased World of Hyatt points

Through 11:59PM ET on Monday, December 21, 2026, World of Hyatt is offering a 20% discount on purchased points. You can unlock this offer as long as you purchase at least 3,000 points in one transaction. If you purchase 1,000 or 2,000 points, you don’t receive any bonus.

How much does it cost to buy Hyatt points?

Under normal circumstances, World of Hyatt charges 2.6 cents per purchased World of Hyatt point, inclusive of all taxes and fees. If you maxed out the promotion, you could purchase 110,000 World of Hyatt points for $2,288, which is a rate of 2.08 cents per World of Hyatt point.

Ordinarily, when Hyatt has a promotion on purchased points, the program offers either a 20-30% bonus or a 20-30% discount. So this is not at the top end of that range, though some bonus is better than no bonus!

How many Hyatt points can you buy?

World of Hyatt ordinarily lets members buy up to 55,000 points per account per calendar year, before any bonuses, in increments of 1,000 points. However, during this promotion, that cap has been doubled, to 110,000 points. Note that in order to purchase points, you must have been enrolled in World of Hyatt for at least 60 days.

While World of Hyatt limits how many points you can buy per year, the program also lets you transfer points to other members for free online, with the ability to transfer up to 525,000 points per year. So that could be a way to circumvent this limit while trying to buy points.

How does this compare to other Hyatt buy points promotions?

When World of Hyatt does offer a promotion on purchased points, it’s most common to see either a 20% bonus or a 20% discount. Personally I’d buy points based on when you’re ready to redeem them, rather than the exact cost. After all, the cost to buy points with a 20% bonus vs. 20% discount is fairly similar.

Below is a chart with some of the recent promotions we saw from the program, before this one.

Which credit card should you buy Hyatt points with?

World of Hyatt points purchases are processed by points.com, meaning they don’t count as a hotel purchase for the purposes of credit card spending. That means if you pay with a Hyatt credit card, you wouldn’t earn any bonus rewards, so it’s not treated as if it’s Hyatt spending.

I’d recommend using a card with which you’re trying to reach a minimum spending requirement, or a credit card that maximizes your return on everyday spending. When in doubt, review which credit cards are best for buying points and miles.

Is buying World of Hyatt points worth it?

While I wouldn’t buy World of Hyatt points without a specific use in mind, there’s tons of value to be had if buying points strategically.

I’m a huge fan of the World of Hyatt program, thanks to the excellent hotel brands Hyatt has, and the general value of World of Hyatt Globalist status, including the ability to use suite upgrade awards when redeeming points.

I’ve had so many amazing award stays with Hyatt over the years, and you could instantly buy points and redeem them at a property and save over 50% in the process. I’ll get into that in a bit more detail below.

How many points do you need for a free night at a Hyatt?

Nowadays World of Hyatt has five tiers of award pricing, spread across eight categories of hotels. Below you can find the redemption chart, with standard room pricing per night.

What are good uses of Hyatt points?

There are truly endless amazing redemptions, so let me just give a couple of examples of how this promotion could pay off, on both ends of the spectrum.

For example, take the Category 1 Hyatt Place Los Cabos. With the lowest award pricing, it costs 3,000 Hyatt points per night. At 2.08 cents per point, you could buy those points for $62.40.

Meanwhile the cash rate for that same night would be $146.60 inclusive of taxes and fees, so that’s a massive discount right there.

For a luxury example, take the Category 8 Park Hyatt Tokyo. With the medium tier award pricing, it costs 45,000 Hyatt points per night. At 2.08 cents per point, you could buy those points for $936.

Meanwhile if paying cash for that stay, you’d pay $1,398.50, so that represents a significant savings.

Of course let me emphasize that there are also all kinds of situations where you won’t come out ahead buying points. If the points rate multiplied by the cost of the purchase is less than the cash rate, then there’s no reason to buy points.

Do Hyatt points expire?

World of Hyatt points can expire if your account doesn’t have any activity for 24 consecutive months. However, any points earning or redemption activity would reset the expiration of your points.

How much are Hyatt points worth?

Everyone will value points differently. Based on my latest miles & points valuations, I consider World of Hyatt points to be worth ~1.4 cents each, and I tend to value points pretty conservatively. So the purchase price is a bit higher than what I value the points, though like I said, there are ways to get much more value.

Does World of Hyatt have blackout dates?

World of Hyatt doesn’t have blackout dates on award nights, and all standard rooms are supposed to be available for points redemptions at the published costs.

How else can you earn Hyatt points?

There are lots of circumstances under which it could make sense to buy World of Hyatt points. However, if you want to acquire World of Hyatt points at a lower out of pocket cost, there are some other options involving credit cards.

In addition to being able to earn World of Hyatt points with Hyatt’s co-branded credit cards, you can also transfer points from both Bilt Rewards and Chase Ultimate Rewards:

Then you can also earn points with Hyatt’s co-branded credit cards, which include the World of Hyatt Business Card (learn more) and World of Hyatt Credit Card (learn more).

Bottom line

Through December 21, 2026, World of Hyatt is offering a 20% discount on the purchase of points, which is an opportunity to acquire points for 2.08 cents each. I know many people find it worthwhile to buy World of Hyatt points, especially those outside the United States, who don’t have access to lucrative credit cards.

So while I absolutely wouldn’t proactively pick up points at this cost, there could still potentially be value. As always, you’ll want to crunch the numbers for yourself, based on the potential stays you’d make.

I often get better than 2.5cpp on my stays, but the rumours of Hyatt introducing spend/base point requirements for status make me slightly wary of buying more points at this time. At least there's no rush to get stuck in.

I guess I was meaning the potential above-globalist tier, which a certain Ben Schlappig suggested would have a revenue requirement.

Tbf, I'd have no chance of meeting a top tier revenue requirement even if I did 365 nights in Hyatts each year, so I guess I shouldn't worry too much about it!
