American Express operates several Centurion Lounges, which can be accessed by those with The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.

As far as their U.S. locations go, as of now they have lounges in Dallas, HoustonLas Vegas, MiamiNew York, San Francisco, and Seattle, and they’ll soon be opening a lounge in Philadelphia, as I reported a couple of weeks ago.

Amex also has some Centurion Lounges internationally, though I haven’t found them to be as consistently good. For example, I’ve reviewed the Centurion Lounges in Mexico City, Sao Paulo, and Sydney. Well, Amex is now opening another Centurion Lounge internationally.

Amex is opening a Centurion Lounge in Hong Kong

Amex will be building their first ever international Centurion Lounge from scratch at Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 1. The lounge is scheduled to open in the third quarter of the year, and will measure over 8,000 square feet. Here’s what Amex had to say about the new lounge:

“Hong Kong continues to be one of the top destinations for our card members, both outbound from China and as a gateway for international travelers,” Janey Whiteside, senior vice president and general manager of Global Charge Products, Benefits & Services, American Express, told me. “It’s going to be a large lounge, over 8,000 square feet, with our typical premium amenities.”

That’s certainly an exciting addition, and I suspect it will be a modern lounge, given that it’s being built from scratch. Personally I have access to Cathay Pacific’s The Pier First Class Lounge in Hong Kong as a oneworld Emerald so I’m not sure how much use I’ll get out of this lounge, but I’m still excited.

Amex is expanding the Centurion Studio in Seattle

Forbes is reporting that Amex will also be increasing the size of the Amex Centurion Studio in Seattle significantly. Presently it’s about 3,000 square feet, while it will be about 4,500 square feet when done, and will feature a shower room and full bar. The renovations should be done in the first half of the year, and the lounge will remain open during this time.

This is Amex’s only Centurion “Studio” location, and they designated it as such because of how small it is. This added space is much needed, as the lounge is consistently overcrowded.

Bottom line

Between the new Centurion Lounge in Philadelphia, the expanded Centurion Studio in Seattle, and the new Centurion Lounge in Hong Kong, I’m quite excited about what Amex has brewing this year!

Which new Centurion Lounge are you looking forward to most this year — Hong Kong, Philadelphia, or the expanded one in Seattle?

When is the Centurion Club Lounge opening in LAX--Los Angeles? Ir is it already open?

This is great news. The CX lounges (even the First Class Wing and Pier) are embarrassingly overcrowded.

Also, I disagree with an earlier poster, the CX Platinum issued in HK is quite good, if you can take advantage of the benefits. I would also assume this is a marketing effort to get more signups locally and within Asia as a whole...not solely to serve Americans.

Where in the terminal will it be, any idea?

Of all the airports that could really use a good lounge (FRA, PEK, PVG, etc) they had to pick the one with some of the best lounges in the world. Pretty sure I'm not leaving The Wing or The Pier for an AmEx Lounge.

    What a waste.

Meanwhile, LAX gets a couple of couches in the middle of TBIT

This will be an Americans-Only lounge. The HK version of the Plat Amex is laughable uncompetitive....

HKG doesn't need another lounge -- CHICAGO.

    Wake up, AMEX,

Considering I moved to Delta. So no more CX lounges for me I am quite excited ! then again these lounges are all over rated. I'll save my calories for the amazing cuisine Hong Kong has to offer. No lounge food can match that!

Hi Ben - I don't think the AmEx lounges overseas are called Centurion Lounges.
