American Airlines nearly gave me a heart attack!

I just receive an email from American with the following subject line:

“Miles or discount? You choose!”

I thought it was the end of the world. I was about to break down into tears and call it fun while it lasted. I’m sure anyone reading this that received the email had the same initial reaction. Low fares would no longer be mileage eligible, I thought. And the way they phrase it is even airline marketing lingo — it’s all about the customer, we get to choose (while they screw us over, of course).

I can’t even begin to say how relieved I was when I opened the email, which was instead an offer to buy miles and receive a 35% mileage bonus or 10% off American coupon.

Whew, that was a close one. But I still dread the day when I receive an email with that subject line that actually contains the content I was expecting….

  1. 🙂 You are paranoid. My immediate reaction was to expect a choice of bonus miles or discount cert.

  2. @ FortFun — Psssh, whatever. 😀

@ mommafrica — I didn’t pick either, since it required buying miles, which I didn’t consider to be a very good deal.

  3. Coins,

Only your readers think like this. The rest of the flying public probably understood the intention of the e mail!!
