Update: This offer for the Amex EveryDay® Credit Card has expired. Learn more about the current offers here.

For those of you not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program available through most Amex cards, where different cards are eligible for different savings offers. In many cases the savings can be huge, and more than offset the annual fee on a card.

To view Amex Offers, go to the bottom of the account summary page of any American Express card, where you’ll see all the offers you’re eligible for. Most of these offers are for a discount when you spend a certain amount with a retailer, and registration is required. Over the past year I’ve saved about a thousand dollars using Amex Offers.

At the moment Amex Offers has a slightly different promotion than usual, which is open to all Membership Rewards eligible cards. This includes cards like:

This Amex Offer isn’t coming in the form of a discount, but rather in the form of bonus points. You can earn 2x Membership Rewards points on Amazon purchases with any Membership Rewards eligible card through July 31, 2016.

Here are the basic terms of the promotion:

Enroll your eligible American Express® Card by 7/31/2016 and get 2X Membership Rewards® points for qualifying purchases made using your enrolled Card at Amazon.com by 7/31/2016.

Beyond that, the key terms are as follows:

  • Enrollment is limited, and open between March 22 and July 31, 2016
  • Only purchases made after enrollment are eligible for the bonus
  • Bonus points should be credited to your account within 90 days of the end of the promotion

Personally I generally use The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card for my Amazon spend. The card offers one Membership Rewards point per dollar spent, and then a 50% points bonus when you make 30 transactions in a billing cycle, for the equivalent of 1.5 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent (which is why it’s one of my primary cards for everyday spend).

Through this promotion I’ll be earning 2.5 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent with Amazon, which is pretty good.

The exception for using The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card is when the Chase Freedom® Card offers 5x points at Amazon, which has historically been for one quarter per year. This past year they even briefly offered 10x points at Amazon. As a result I stocked up on Amazon gift cards, and I’m still working on burning through them.

Bottom line

This is a nice promotion from Amex, so be sure you register your eligible American Express card, as registration is limited. A lot of us spend a good amount at Amazon, and it’s not a category which is usually eligible for bonus points. So being able to earn up to 2.5x Membership Rewards points at Amazon with The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card is pretty awesome.

  1. If I have a 10X Points for the first year up to 150,000 point offer that I am using for my Amex Platinum, will I get 20X points at Amazon?

  2. @ Ethan — Nope, it’s calculated as 2x base spend, which is an extra Membership Rewards point per dollar spent, regardless of the card.

  3. When I logged into my AMEX account earlier today I saw the double Amazon points, as well as an offer for the AMEX Business gold card for 50,000 points and a $5000 spend in three months. I logged out to do something else, and when I logged back on and it was gone. Do these offers usually disappear like that?

  4. Is this one of those things I can only put on one card or can I put it on all my eligible cards without using the multiple browser trick?

  5. It doesn’t show up on “all” Membership Reward eligible cards (like my Green Corporate Card for example) but I do appreciate the post. Thanks.

  6. @Ryan, or sign up for an Amazon store credit account and get 5% back as a statement credit on all purchases forever.

  7. Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card Everyday Preferred does not offer the Amazon promotion. It wasn’t available and I called as well.

  8. @Luis, yes, but if you are not/don’t have a business, then that’s not an option (no Bold card for you). Either is better than 2x membership rewards though.

  9. Hey Ben, how are you?
I Have The Platinum card of american express, do you know if the promotion of amazon 2.5 miles/U$ works for credit cards from Brasil? I can´t find any evidence… Help Me!!

  10. American Express would not allow me to add this to my Gold Membership rewards card. They did allow me to add it to my Centurion card.

  11. Is there a limit to how much spend will get 2X rewards? Would Amazon gift card purchases qualify?

I read the terms and they didn’t mention any limit.

  12. Be warned: I by mistake added the offer to the wrong Amex and u can’t seem to remove it! And I can’t add it to my other Amex!!
