Great Deal: Save On Amazon With Chase Points

Link: Check if you’re eligible for an Amazon discount with Chase

Amazon and Chase frequently offer targeted promotions that can save you money on an Amazon purchase by redeeming a single Ultimate Rewards point (we often see similar promotions with Amex Membership Rewards).

While these promotions seem to be offered frequently, I almost never seem to be eligible. Well, for the first time in years, I seem to be eligible for an Amazon discount promotion with Chase points, so hopefully others have similar luck.

Save on Amazon by redeeming Chase points

Thanks to a targeted promotion from Chase and Amazon, it’s possible to save on Amazon purchases by redeeming a single Ultimate Rewards point.

Different people will be eligible for different promotions, though one common offer seems to be for 50% off an eligible purchase, up to a $15 discount. Others report seeing 50% off an eligible purchase, up to a $10 discount, with that offer only being available if you use at least 100 Chase points. You’ll want to check this link to see which offer your account is eligible for, if any.

There are a few things to be aware of with this promotion:

  • Check to see if you’re eligible for an offer by clicking the “Activate now” button at this link; note that to be eligible you’ll need to have a card earning Chase Ultimate Rewards points linked to your account, so if you don’t have that, add one (this is the most common reason you otherwise wouldn’t be eligible)
  • This offer is available through December 31, 2022, or until a certain number of people have redeemed the offer, so you’ll want to use this ASAP
  • This offer is only available for products shipped by Amazon.com; products fulfilled through third parties won’t qualify, even if they’re “fulfilled by Amazon.com” or “Prime eligible”
  • You can take advantage of this offer at most one time

Step-by-step guide to using this offer

Want to take advantage of this promotion? There are a few simple steps. First of all, you’ll want to activate whichever offer you’re eligible for at this link. If you are eligible, you’ll see a green message stating “this promo code is now activated and your points will be applied at checkout.”

Then go through the shopping process as you usually would, keeping in mind the limitations and restrictions of the offer.

For example, my account was eligible for the 50% off promotion up to a $15 discount, so I added a $30 Uber Eats gift card to my shopping cart.

I then proceeded to checkout, and under the “payment method” section, I selected one of my cards that earns Chase Ultimate Rewards points. There you’ll see an option to select how many points you want to apply toward a purchase.

The catch is that redeeming Chase points toward an Amazon purchase isn’t a good deal, as you ordinarily get just 0.8 cents of value per point, and I value Chase points at 1.7 cents each. So what you’ll want to do is redeem a single point. Therefore you’ll want to type “$0.01” in the box, which means one point will be applied in order to get a one cent discount (and applying any number of points allows you to unlock the discount).

Note that some versions of the offer require redeeming a minimum of 100 points, in which case you’d want to put $0.80 as the amount. This is still a good deal.

Then when you click “use this payment method,” you’ll see the discount applied.

If you don’t have an immediate need to buy something on Amazon but are eligible, I’d still recommend taking advantage of this, especially if you’re eligible for the 50% discount. There are all kinds of gift card purchases this can be applied toward, for companies like Apple, DoorDashSouthwest Airlines, Starbucks, Uber, Uber Eats, Whole Foods, etc.

Bottom line

There is currently a promotion for redeeming Chase points through Amazon. The most common offer seems to be for a 50% discount on a purchase, up to $15 back. This is a great deal, so check to see if you’re eligible, and if so, I’d recommend taking advantage ASAP.

Were you targeted for this Chase deal with Amazon, and if so, do you plan on taking advantage of it?

Interestingly enough, Jeff Bezos went on TV last night advising consumers refrain from shopping on Amazon and increase the saving budget as the recession is around the corner, as soon as next year. He suggested to hold off all big appliance and tech gadget purchases until the world economy improves.

$10 off with 100 points. So i got a $20 gift card for $10.70 ($10 plus opportunity cost of .70 on the 100 points as i only got .8cents of value vs 1.5 cents). That's a great deal!

    My offer was:
"Get 50% off eligible purchases when using Ultimate Rewards this holiday season. Max discount $10, with 100 point minimum spend."
First time I have seen a minimum point spend.

I got the same deal, first time I've ever been targeted for a Chase offer on Amazon
