New Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX: Stylish But Small

New Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX: Stylish But Small

33

In September 2024, Virgin Atlantic announced plans to open its latest Clubhouse lounge location, which is the sixth in the network. There’s now an exciting update, as the lounge is officially opening.

Basics of the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX

A Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse is opening at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) as of tomorrow (March 28, 2025). The 4,401 square foot lounge is located in Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT), on level six. Virgin Atlantic has taken over the space of the former Etihad Lounge, which closed during the pandemic, when Etihad discontinued flights to the airport.

The lounge is described as having been designed with wellness in mind, with “a multi-sensory experience designed to soothe the senses at twilight with thoughtful touches to aid relaxation.” The lounge features local artwork and sunset-inspired mood lighting, including day-to-night transitional lighting, to help align circadian rhythms.

For such a small lounge, it has an impressive number of unique concepts:

  • The Ruby Room is a Hollywood-inspired space with its own cinema, featuring wireless headsets connected via bluetooth
  • The Wing has acoustically-sealed work pods, named after iconic studios like The Manor, Olympic Studios, and Sunset Sound
  • The Zen Den is an immersive space featuring relaxation, movement, and mindfulness sessions, powered by the FORME Studio, a smart fitness mirror
  • The Royal Box is “a destination for VIPs featuring adjustable mood lighting and a secret menu”
  • The lounge has shower suites, with shower and body products from Flamingo Estate’s Garden Essentials collection

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse offers table service at every seat in the lounge.

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX food & drinks

Signature dishes include a tuna poke bowl, California roll, tofu pho, Californian fig salad, and more. There’s also a self-serve area at the brasserie with health-conscious bites, like Mediterranean quinoa salad, raw vegetables and hummus, citrus kale salad, and trail mix.

The beverage selection includes all kinds of cocktails, beer, and wine, with cocktails crafted by Virgin Atlantic’s in-house mixologist. Cocktails include the Twisted Angel, featuring Aperol and gin. There are also a variety of low and no-alcohol offerings, like TRIP Mindful Blend.

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX opening hours vary, but generally, the lounge opens roughly four hours before the first Virgin Atlantic flight departure. Currently, the lounge is open daily from 11:30AM until 12AM.

For those curious about the economics of this lounge, according to Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) documents, Virgin Atlantic has spent around $2 million to refurbish the lounge space, and is paying around $1.2 million per year in rent, with an initial five year contract that can be extended by another five years.

Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX access requirements

So, who can access the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX?

  • Passengers traveling in Upper Class on Virgin Atlantic, with the ability to bring a guest
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Gold members traveling internationally with Virgin Atlantic or Delta, with the ability to bring a guest
  • Delta One passengers on a Delta international flight
  • SkyTeam Elite Plus members traveling on Virgin Atlantic or Delta, with the ability to bring a guest

This is the fourth Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse location in the United States, complementing locations in New York (JFK), San Francisco (SFO), and Washington (IAD). Interestingly, there was actually a Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse in Los Angeles back in the day, in Terminal 2. It opened in 2015, and closed in 2021, with plans to become part of an expansion of the adjacent Delta Sky Club®.

Keep in mind that all terminals at LAX are connected airside. We also recently saw the opening of the Delta One Lounge LAX, in Terminal 3. This lounge is phenomenal, and Virgin Atlantic Upper Class passengers also have access to that.

My take on the new Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX

I’m excited to hear about the opening of the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX, and have a few thoughts.

For one, additional lounge capacity is always a good thing, given how chronically overcrowded airport lounges are. That’s especially true at LAX TBIT, since so many passengers are eligible for lounge access. This lounge space had been sitting empty for years, so I’m happy to see that it’s once again welcoming guests.

Second, I’m curious if this lounge ends up joining Priority Pass for hours outside of the typical Virgin Atlantic departure bank. Virgin Atlantic’s other Clubhouses in the United States belong to Priority Pass over select hours, so I would guess this lounge will join as well. However, I don’t see any indication of that yet. TBIT doesn’t have a single Priority Pass lounge, as it stands.

Lastly, Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses generally have a great soft product, with a la carte dining and great cocktails. However, let me just acknowledge that the actual space the lounge has taken over leaves quite a bit to be desired. It’s not a very big lounge, and it lacks views. As you can see, there’s a heavy emphasis on mood lighting, since you won’t be getting any natural light in this lounge.

I’m excited about another lounge at LAX TBIT!

Bottom line

The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX is finally opening, at Tom Bradley International Terminal. Virgin Atlantic has taken over the space of the former Etihad Lounge, which is roughly 4,400 square feet, and on level six. This is a great new option for SkyTeam flyers, and I’m happy to see Virgin Atlantic making a lounge comeback at LAX, after the carrier closed its previous lounge a few years ago.

What do you make of the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse LAX?

If you had to choose one, would you go to the Virgin Atlantic Lounge or the Delta One and why? Thanks!

If you're flying Virgin, use the Virgin lounge. It's that simple.

"SkyTeam Elite Plus members traveling on Virgin Atlantic or Delta, with the ability to bring a guest"

Why can't a ST EP flying AF or KLM or any other ST airline access the lounge?

I actually think its a mistake in the original press release and Ben deleted the wrong part, but I also could be wrong.

The original line in the press release was:

"SkyTeam Elite Plus members traveling on Virgin Atlantic or Delta...

"SkyTeam Elite Plus members traveling on Virgin Atlantic or Delta, with the ability to bring a guest"

The original line in the press release was:

"SkyTeam Elite Plus members traveling on Virgin Atlantic or Delta + one guest traveling on an international flight operated by a SkyTeam carrier"

It should be the first "traveling..." deleted so it reads:

"SkyTeam Elite Plus members ... + one guest traveling on an international flight operated by a SkyTeam carrier"

That would match ST policy, which is "SkyTeam Elite Plus members can invite one guest in the lounge. who must be travelling on the same SkyTeam member operated flight".

      Full access rules on the VS website;

Capacity controls. This lounge is tiny in size.

At LAX, AF/KLM passengers already have their own lounge and the SkyClubs for status access. And then the D1 lounge for business class. That's more than enough.

VS is prioritizing its own passengers, which makes sense.

  3. Aaron Guest

Kinda sucks that SkyTeam passengers in first and business class on other airlines besides Delta can't access the lounge...but then, given the small size, they could be trying to avoid it getting too crowded.

  4. Icarus Guest

VS has 3 daily flights during the summer at 1530, 2005 and 2120 changing to 2250, so assume the Lounge is open from 1130 -2250

  5. UncleRonnie Diamond

Table Service for Priority Pass types seems far too fancy, so I’d be surprised if they open the lounge outside VS flight hours.

    1. SamG Guest

They run them with a much reduced F&B offer in Priority Pass hours

  6. Andy PF Guest

Am I crazy, or did VS previously have a lounge at LAX many moons ago? I vaguely remember flying VA to Sydney from LAX, maybe a decade ago, and getting access to a VS Clubhouse in LAX.

    1. Icarus Guest

VS had one in Terminal 2 which closed about 4 years ago. It was formerly a second Delta Skyclub, having previously been a NW Club and then an AF Lounge.

I believe DL must have closed that Lounge in T2 once their new one opened.

  7. RichM Diamond

One small correction - I believe Virgin Australia gold and platinum flyers also get access.

    1. Mike C Diamond

VA elites only have access when flying on Virgin Atlantic flights, I believe.

  8. FNT Delta Diamond Guest

It's just crazy that Delta elites in economy can get in this lounge but the same Delta elites flying economy can't get into the Sky Club.

    1. NateNate Guest

Same is true with Air Canada lounges and United.

  9. ZF Guest

Based on the new access rules as of April 1st, would Delta Gold/Plat/Diamond elites be able to access the lounge when traveling domestically? The way the rules are phrased on the Virgin website is "SkyTeam Elite Plus members traveling on Virgin Atlantic or Delta + a guest traveling on an international flight operated by a SkyTeam carrier"

  10. yoloswag420 Guest

Will inbound VS passengers be able to use this? Connecting onto Delta w/ a separate ticket, also have VS Gold status.

It would be nice to use this as arriving into TBIT, the D1 lounge is a long walk

    1. Vsam Guest

Can inbound VS UC passengers (I'm also Gold/STE+) access the Delta One lounge when connecting to a domestic DL flight? I didn't think so.

    2. yoloswag420 Guest

They can, the difference here is that your Gold/STE+ doesn't matter for D1 lounge access, as it's not a status lounge unless you're Delta 360.

  11. JournoFlyer Member

Once again, I am extremely disappointed to see that Virgin is allowed to skirt basic SkyTeam access rules. A STE+ flyer with Flying Blue wouldn't be allowed to enter the VS lounge if they are flying non-VS/DL internationally, but a VS STE+ flyer would be allowed to enter the AF lounge in the same building.

And at the same time, SkyTeam is trying to expand domestic lounge access. Make it make sense.

      Skyteam never makes sense

The Manor was Branson’s first studio. Also the name of the nightclub on all Virgin Voyages ships.

“…as you won’t be getting any natural lounge in this lounge.”

I came to this lounge, naturally, to naturally lounge and now you’re telling me I can’t lounge in the lounge? Tyranny! :P

@Ben it’s actually opening tomorrow according to the VS Clubhouse website and the full F&B menus are also hyperlinked.

Considering the Delta One Lounge is not very far away, which lounge would you rather visit if you're flying VS?

    1. Ben Schlappig OMAAT

@ Super -- Almost certainly the Delta One Lounge, but why not check them both out?

    2. FNT Delta Diamond Guest

Better free wine at the Virgin Atlantic lounge.

    3. Mike C Diamond

Surely Delta has premium wine in their lounges?

    4. Mrbigman Guest

There actually a sign at the Dl one lounge by the elevators about how to get to the VS lounge
