Breeze Airways is the US airline startup that started flying in May 2021. While the airline initially launched operations with used Embraer E190/195 aircraft, eventually the Airbus A220 will be the backbone of the carrier’s fleet, as Breeze has 80 of these on order.
Breeze’s focus is on offering point-to-point service in underserved markets, and the airline has just announced its biggest expansion to date. As of the summer of 2022, Breeze is adding 35 routes to 10 new cities, so let’s go over the details.

My take on Breeze’s expansion
With this latest expansion, in the summer of 2022 Breeze will operate a total of 77 routes to 28 cities in 18 states. It’s really cool to see Breeze Airways’ route network developing in this way. With the airline soon starting service with A220s, we’ll finally get to experience the potential of what Breeze has been promising.
A few random thoughts:
- It’s cool to see Breeze finally expanding further west, with flights to California and Nevada
- I’m particularly excited to see Breeze finally adding some transcon routes, which we hadn’t seen until now; routes like Syracuse to Las Vegas and Providence to Los Angeles are particularly exciting
- The service to San Bernardino is interesting, since Breeze will be the only commercial airline operating there, yet the airline will only offer once daily service to San Francisco
Bottom line
Breeze Airways is continuing to expand significantly, and now the airline has revealed huge growth plans for summer 2022. The airline is adding 35 new routes, including flights to 10 new airports. Much of this growth comes as Breeze is putting A220s into service, as this plane opens up all kinds of new route potential.
I’m looking forward to trying Breeze’s A220s when they enter service in May!

I can't find a direct flight from JAX to ORF in Sept/October...Is that route only temporary or just for a few months out of the year?

This is exciting to know! I want to book a flight to Savannah soon! I really love their cheap hotels! There are lots of them over in Savannah GA and are really great! SBD-SFO is listed as once a day on an E175. That appears to be the only E175 flight from SFO. I wonder what that plane is going to do the rest of the day. Maybe another route announcement ex-SFO is coming?
Orlando remains noticeably (and surprisingly) absent.
With oil skyrocketing and our government doing nothing to mitigate the situation I see an airline crisis soon arising which will pale what happened when oil spiked in the late 00s. You have to wonder how this is going to impact a start up airline trying to capture flyers with deep discount tickets. This isn't JetBlue start up of 2000-2003.
Breeze will serve my city (Syracuse NY) soon. They sound like just st another deep discount carrier... this is hard to get excited about if their service is as good as, say, allegiant air...
AA will be launching PVD-MIA as well as an additional route tomorrow from PVD, big week for an airport that looked like BOS' growth was going seriously threaten it (it's live and bookable)
San Bernardino one is a gamechanger for anyone traveling down from SFO for the music fests there.

San Bernardino has been trying to get an airline for ages and has a terminal that has sat vacant for over a decade after a period of questionable decisions converting the former Norton AFB. Given the limitations of the airport and its infrastructure for passenger traffic, it will be interesting to see how this route does.

That's the A220 business class cabin. You can see where is switches to 2-3 about halfway back.

Mrs. Doubt has been pestering me to visit Charleston, so I hope that flight from SFO sticks around, but none of those SFO flights look long term to me.

I didn’t even know San Bernadino had an airport. Seems like it’s mainly cargo flights and private planes. Good option vs. Ontario for anyone going to Riverside I guess.
