The Armani Hotel Dubai Is Now Serving Up Gold Cappuccinos

I’ve spent a lot of time in Dubai over the years, and have written a guide about what I think first-timers should do when visiting Dubai. While Dubai is all about glitz and glam on the surface, there’s certainly more to the city than that.

As much as I’m usually the furthest thing from a “blingy” person, in an amusing way there’s something I still love about that side of Dubai.

For example, at the St. Regis Dubai last week I had the “gold mary,” which is the hotel’s signature bloody mary. As the name suggests, it has gold flakes in it.

The seven course afternoon tea at the Burj Al Arab is incredibly indulgent as well, though comes with a hefty price tag.

As a lover of all things coffee, a new glitzy thing in Dubai has caught my attention. Per Hotelier Middle EastThe Armani Hotel, located at the base of the Burj Khalifa, is now serving up cappuccinos with real 23-carat gold flakes. They’re available in the hotel’s lobby lounge daily from 3PM until 6PM. The cost? 75AED, or or ~20USD.

While expensive, it’s certainly an experience, and I’m sure will make a good Instagram/Tweet/Facebook post, if nothing else. 😉 The Burj Khalifa is right next to the Dubai Mall, so this is a great place to take a break during a visit to the mall.

I’ll be sure to check this out the next time I pass through Dubai!

Consuming this Cappuccino with Gold Flakes will reduce a man's libido! As Gold is supposedly an agent which reduces a persons libido significantly. So it isn't a good idea to try this out if one is in DXB with a significant other and planning nocturnal activites. Though if one is alone this drink could be had ;-)

The only things I was impressed with while on a recent visit ... was the apartment building sized aquarium, and the A380 simulator ...
And as the overburdened EK purchases of A380's attest, reality is slowly infiltrating the glitz and glamour, and due financial reckoning is soon arriving...by camel.

Same price at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. It's a novelty item, for sure.

Gold doesn't taste like anything. Your saliva would have to be as corrosive as fuming sulfuric acid to dissolve enough gold into your taste buds that you could detect it at all.

Lots of metals do have distinct flavors because they or their salts dissolve easily. Iron has a distinctive clean watery flavor. Zinc is cloyingly metallic with dirty cheap overtones.

But gold is just inert. It's boring.

Gold flecks in the cappuccino at the Burj:

    Dubai is simply vulgar.

So when eating 23 carat gold I'm also consuming silver, zinc, nickel and other alloys, addition of metals that make the texture of gold harder. Yaaaaay

Gold is inert so it won't affect you but given it is only 23ct, you need to worry about the impurities with it. Mercury loves to stick to gold for example.

Cappuccino isn't an afternoon drink, but that said I'd totally order this for fun...

Cappuccinos at the Burj (included with tea) come with gold flakes as well.

My wife ordered a second one and it was delivered without the gold flakes. Embracing the absurdity of it all. I sent it back.

Calling yourself a coffee lover and writing about coffee with gold flakes...? Gold has nothing to do with quality coffee. It's just pretentious crap IMHO.

There really isn't any health benefits to ingesting gold. It doesn't react with many things. So you'd literally be shitting money away!

Are you supposed to consume the gold? I'm headed to Dubai tonight on EK208 out of JFK, maybe I should try this????

Not sure about the color of that bloody Mary. I don't think it should be brown.
Than the gold flakes. Can a human digest 23ct gold? Are there people who recover the flakes in the bathroom?
