Capital One Lounge Coming To New York JFK Airport Terminal 4

Capital One Lounge Coming To New York JFK Airport Terminal 4

17

Capital One’s network of airport lounges is expanding even further, as the card issuer has announced plans for another new lounge. This complements the existing Capital One Lounge Dallas (DFW), Capital One Lounge Denver (DEN)Capital One Lounge Washington Dulles (IAD), as well as the future Capital One Landing concept.

Basics of the Capital One Lounge New York JFK

A Capital One Lounge will be opening at New York JFK Airport Terminal 4. Specifically, the 13,000 square foot lounge will be located in the retail hall of the terminal, which is operated by JFKIAT.

Capital One shares that this lounge will feature the most expansive apron views of any Capital One Lounge yet. Furthermore, the lounge will “serve as a tribute to New York City’s charm and provide guests with an elevated travel experience that gives travelers a taste of the diverse city without ever having to leave the airport.”

The following details have been shared about the experience that will be offered in the Capital One Lounge JFK:

  • The lounge will have special culinary experiences paying homage to NYC classics, including being able to order a selection of coffee and bagels from an in-lounge bodega
  • The lounge will have a specially trained cheesemonger, offering local cheeses from artisans in the nearby Hudson Valley and New York region, alongside cured meats, house made accompaniments, and paired with wine and beer selections
  • The lounge will have partnerships with local breweries, mixologists, coffee roasters, and bakeries
  • The lounge will have destination-inspired design elements that capture the essence of New York, including works sourced from local artists
  • Beyond the unique amenities for New York, the lounge will feature signature Capital One Lounge amenities, like a grab and go food and drink selection, an in-lounge menu with options served as small plates, fully stocked shower suites, power outlets at every seat, high speed Wi-Fi, and more

Unfortunately an opening timeline hasn’t yet been announced, so therefore I wouldn’t expect the lounge to open anytime soon. Below you can find some renderings of the new lounge.

JFK Terminal 4 is becoming a credit card lounge haven

As most OMAAT readers probably know, several card issuers are developing lounge networks. In addition to Capital One Lounges, you also have Amex Centurion Lounges and Chase Sapphire Lounges. What’s pretty noteworthy is that JFK will become the first airport in the world to have all three lounge networks present.

Not only that, but all three card issuers will have lounges in the same terminal. The Amex Centurion Lounge JFK was the first to open, and then we recently saw the opening of the Chase Sapphire Lounge JFK (which is the former Etihad Lounge).

Now, it’s not too surprising to see Terminal 4 getting the most lounges, since it’s the largest terminal at the airport, and it’s also there for the long run (as some other terminal are being redeveloped).

The continued growth of lounge networks at JFK Terminal 4 is great news. This is a terminal where Delta is the largest carrier, and historically the Delta Sky Club had major crowding issues. However, with the increasing presence of credit card lounges, plus a Delta One Lounge expected to open soon, plus the Delta Sky Club network there having expanded, the passenger experience is continuing to improve.

I just wish we saw a bit more variety in terms of which terminals got lounges, but I understand why things are playing out the way they are.

Bottom line

The Capital One Lounge network is expanding, with plans for a new lounge at New York JFK Terminal 4. The 13,000 square foot lounge should feature apron views, grab and go food and drinks, a coffee bar, and much more. Capital One Lounges are phenomenal, so I can’t wait to check out this one when it opens. We sure are becoming spoiled for choice in JFK Terminal 4…

What do you make of plans for a Capital One Lounge JFK?

While I'm sure it makes business sense for the Cap1 folks, I had hoped we'd be seeing Cap1 lounges in other places that are a lot more of a lounge desert. I rarely fly DL or its partners internationally, and I intend to it will likely be in biz so other lounges would be available so this doesn't benefit me as much as looking at some other places in the US.

    1. InternationalTraveler Gold

Yet on the West Coast the Chase and Capital One lounges are absent.

San Francisco had one busy Centurion lounge and could benefit from credit card lounges in the international terminal A and domestic terminal 1.

LGA terminal B has operating Centurion and Chase lounges and Capitol One under construction. Unless they get that JFK lounge open quickly, LGA will beat them.

In terms of lounges outside of T4

    1) T5 is controlled by JetBlue - and they haven't prioritized lounges, either with themselves or partners. They can fix that if they wanted to

    2) T8 is controlled by AA/BA - they spent a lot of money on their premium lounges and have neglected the regular Admirals Clubs. And now, Priority Pass members can no longer access Bobby Vans. American could always renovate their Admirals Club; they...

American could always renovate their Admirals Club; they could have also tried to get Capital One in this terminal as well. But they don't seem to care as much

    3) All of the other terminals are dominated by international carriers, who will maintain their own lounges. Credit card lounges are generally not going to work that well in international-only terminals

Your logic is faulty. T5 and T8 won't get CC lounges because neither airline has a CC issued by Amex/Chase/Cap One. T8 is solely controled by AA, so the Chase-BA relationship doesn't count.

T4 is operated by Schiphol Group independently of any airline, so the CC companies are leasing space just like any retailer would from the non-airline operator of the terminal. I'm sure Delta doesn't like Chase and Cap One in their terminal,...

I'm sure Delta doesn't like Chase and Cap One in their terminal, but they don't control the space so not much they can do about it.

T1 is operated by a group of airlines in a JV (AF, LH, Japan Airlines, and Korean Air). Its the process of being completely redone, and I doubt the same operator will continue after renovation, esp since LH and Japan Airlines won't serve the new T1.

T6 -- I'm not sure which bucket this will fall under. I thought JetBlue will operate it, but LH will now be a tenant and the terminal is being constructed by a consortium, not JetBlue.

Actually the new CC lounges in T4 are good for Delta. It encourages people to fly Delta in T4 out of JFK for lounges and brings people over from JetBlue or AA terminals.

Not sure I agree with many of these points

      1) First of all, T5 and T8 can improve their own lounge situations without credit card lounges by either introducing an airline lounge (T5) or improving the existing one (T8).
      2) Also, CapOne doesn't partner with any airline - I don't see why JetBlue or American Airlines couldn't encourage CapOne to open in terminals they "control." CapOne is already in an American-dominated terminal at DFW.

      3) It wouldn't surprise me if Delta was not all that upset with these new lounges in T4, as they can ease SkyClub crowding
      4) I don't see the appeal for a credit card lounge operator to open in T1, as it will be a small terminal with no domestic O&D, which these credit card lounges rely a lot on for traffic. T6 is another story - it will have spaces for five lounges. The question is will JetBlue open a couple themselves, or encourage credit card companies to do it for them...

I'm guessing it's the former LX Wingtip lounges. While DeltaOne takes over LY and beyond.

    1. Kiwi Guest

That would make sense as I was wondering where the space would be for it to have expansive runway views.

The description of food court made me wonder if they were taking some of the retail space which always seems empty eg. Hugo Boss

    2. pstm91 Diamond

That was my first guess (R.I.P. WingTips - the best bar lounge out there. Always had a soft spot for it), but it says it's down in the retail area. I thought I knew T4 like the back of my hand, but unless it's taking over the space from several stores and restaurants downstairs, I am definitely confused by that wording.

    3. Rylan Guest

T4 has built a two-floor extension that juts out from the current building for these lounges. Upstairs on the departures level, the new Delta One lounge is taking up all the space from the former LX to Wingtips to LY lounge areas (the DL lounge will be a massive 38,000 sq feet facility). Below the new DL lounge, on the retail level part of it, will be this new Capitol One lounge as well as another Delta One lounge entrance area.

How long does it take for Chase to build out a larger lounger JFK once the new space is done. Current configuration just won’t cut it at T4 with the number of people with CSR cards in NY LAX SFO ATL and feels like a temporary fix till they get an appropriate size space available

Would love to see the Cap One landing concept at T5 with something more permanent worked into the plans for T6.

The Capital One Lounges seem to close and completely random intervals, or have random overcrowding issues.

  7. david Guest

I wish there were an airside interterminal bus, especially between T4 and T5 but it would be great to add T7 too.

  8. yoloswag420 Guest

It's rather difficult tbh. Delta is the top carrier by market share in JFK, so most of the lounges need to be built in T4. Amex's choice makes sense given the close Delta partnership. However, I was quite disappointed w/ the Chase Sapphire lounge that restricts access so severely.

JFK is not connected airside and the other JFK terminals are sorely lacking. JetBlue's own T5 lacks any options altogether. Something needs to be solved to address these problems.
