Will credit card companies compensate for lost luggage by the hotel?

Will credit card companies compensate for lost luggage by the hotel?

I recently had an experience where the hotel gave my luggage to someone else. Luckily they eventually found it but I was wondering if the luggage was lost, would my credit card which I charged the hotel room rate to would have compensate me for this?

Not entirely sure, but I had my luggage stolen from a hotel room in Portugal about 5 years ago, and my personal home insurance covered me. It was through Allstate at the time, but basically my insurance at home covered the physical home itself, and my belongings in it (regardless of if they were in the home or not). I was kinda shocked, but didn’t hate when they wrote me a check to cover everything in my luggage.
