Hotel loyalty

Hello! I am curious about your thoughts regarding the SPG and Marriott merger, which is better to focus on getting status for? I am silver with Marriott, and am closer to gold with SPG than I am with Marriott. Do we have a good idea of how things will end up once the loyalty programs merge?

    Thanks!

As ofo now, SPG and Marriott status can match one another so I’d focus on getting status for whichever program is easiest for you, and then match to the other program. If you have an Amex Platinum card, that qualifies you for Hilton Gold and SPG Gold, the latter of which can be matched to Marriott Gold.

There’s been no reports of what the new program will look like as of yet. There should be announcements later this year, assuming the new program begins in 2018.
