Collecting points in Canada

Just wondering what you all think would be a good plan of action in this situation, curious to hear how others have handled this.
I’m newly based on the West Coast in Canada and fly to Europe several times a year. I gave up on Aeroplan long ago as reward space was nonexistent.
Options for flying out of my city to Europe are either Star Alliance or SkyTeam and I actively try to avoid routing via the US.
In such a situation, where would you credit your miles and where would you redeem for the best value? Co-branded credit card options not really an option as most are not available in Canada. (Spg amex is available)
What would you all do in this situation?

Hi Ali, as this is a US-centric blog many of us are not very knowledgeable about programs outside the US.

Have you checked out some of the Canada-based bloggers here on the Boarding Area platform? Canadian Kilometers and Pointshogger are a couple I can think of off the top of my head. If you go to the Boarding Area home page there’s a “meet our bloggers” type of link and you can look for more there.

Yeah aeroplan and the west coast don’t mix very well. I keep some points with aeroplan, but I am moving more and more spending on amex spg.
