Changing award ticket

Changing award ticket

quick Q. United platinum have award ticket booked for next year. Want to change destination. (Essentially it will be an add on flight.).

For example..initially FCO-ORD will now be FCO-ORD-DFW. Both are under a business saver (same points) and well over 60 days out so no change fee for me (platinum status). Question is would you call and ask to add the tag flight for free or call and cancel the origional ticket. Then rebook it with the tag.

Add the tag flight – there is no guarantee your original ticket will go back into award inventory immediately.

If you’re more than 60 days from travel, you wont be charged any fees as a UA Premier Platinum. If travel is within 60 days, there’s a $50 fee.
