AA bought & cancelled ticket for same day, recourse to get money back?

AA bought & cancelled ticket for same day, recourse to get money back?

  1. Anonymous Guest

    Hi guys,

Long of it short, I was originally due to travel on Southwest but they cancelled my flight 6 hours before takeoff. I was eventually able to book onto a nonstop delta flight using flying blue (transferred from ultimate rewards) but had booked an AA flight to be safe given that I needed to get to my destination that night. In hindsight, I should’ve put that AA ticket on hold because now I’m stuck having paid for the ticket. I cancelled the AA flight thinking i would be covered by the DOT 24 hour cancellation rule, only to realize that it’s for flights booked 7+ days in advance, with AA’s policy being refund 2+ days in advance of the flight.

Is there any recourse or method you all would recommend to try to get AA to give me a refund? No status with the airline, paid for it on a Sapphire Reserve if its possible disputing the transaction.

    Thanks,
    JY

It’s always worth a call to ask. Just be prepared to be refused a refund because it’s their policy and what you agreed to by purchasing the ticket. I dont think a dispute would be resolved in your favor either.
