AA Awards after March 22, 2016

AA Awards after March 22, 2016

  1. Marilaine New Member

I have a couple of questions about how best to use AA awards with the upcoming devaluation on March 22, 2016:

    (1) I have enough Alaska Airlines miles for a Business class award to Europe. Will business class saver awards flying on AA to Europe with Alaska Airlines awards continue to be 50,000 after March 22 or will Alaska Airlines also change to match American (57,500 miles)?

    (2) Can I book an AA business saver award to Europe before March 22 at 50,000 miles and then later change the travel date (to extend the time I have to use the award to late spring or early summer 2017) without paying additional miles?

    Thanks for your help.

    1. Alaska is not changing their award chart at this time so it doesn’t matter who owns/operates the plane you’re flying, what matters is whose miles you’re using. In this case you’re set with Alaska.

    2. Lucky had a blog post about AA award changes a few weeks ago. Hopefully that will answer your questions:
