The Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur has opened with 268 all-suite rooms and record-setting rates for the city. It looks gorgeous, but I'm not sure the pricing makes sense.

Kuala Lumpur is half as clean as Singapore , so the hotel rate ought to be half of 300 = 150 .

One really hopes that the W-A is twice as good as the P.H. if they're going to be charging twice the price.

The P.H. KL has won me over and I can't imagine staying elsewhere; then again, I also enjoy the relationships and friendships that form by being a regular at some properties.

The large flexible ladders hanging down next to the grand staircase are for the Malaysian monkeys to climb up and down .

Agree on the PH, the Petronas view from the higher floors is hard to beat. For the Waldorf to justify double IMO the JG restaurants need to become proper local destinations, because KL dining outside hotels is so good and cheap that guests rarely stay in. Think Jalan Alor at night or a nasi lemak breakfast at Village Park in Damansara Uptown.

FWIW free trackers like HotelPriceTracker watch a chosen hotel’s rate and email you when it dips, handy while a new opening figures out what the market will pay. I’d give it 6 months of reviews before booking

"When you consider that standard suites are over 860 square feet, that price probably doesn’t seem unreasonable. You’re getting more than twice the space you’d ordinarily get at the city’s top luxury hotels, so it’s not illogical that the pricing would be higher."

Hmm, it depends. I can certainly see why the hotel management regard a larger room as having more value. But that said I don't know what I would do with all that extra space, and so the added value to me, as a cash buyer, is quite low.

Bathroom in the same space as the bedroom? I’m OUT!
