United Airlines’ “Love In Plane Sight” Holiday Film

United Airlines has just debuted a cute holiday film, which is worth watching, if you have a few minutes and are into that kind of stuff…

United Airlines’ rom-com holiday film

“Love in Plane Sight” is the name of United’s holiday rom-com, being released ahead of what United anticipates will be its busiest Thanksgiving travel period ever, where the airline will carry more than 5.9 million passengers.

Here’s how United describes the short film:

This holiday season, United created a holiday rom-com made for travel-lovers, literally – “Love in Plane Sight.” Just in time for the busy holiday travel season, the airline’s original short film delivers cheeky, feel-good, festive entertainment while highlighting all the ways customers can travel easier with United this holiday season.

The original United production chronicles a quintessential holiday movie “meet cute,” filmed and at Denver International Airport and onboard a United aircraft and featuring cameos from real United employees, while weaving in United offerings to help busy travelers this season, like Bag Drop Shortcut, Live Activities through the United app and the comforts of the airline’s international business class Polaris. In the film, United also highlights its sustainability aviation fuel (SAF) program in a simple, consumer-friendly way.

The movie can be watched on United social channels effective immediately (you can watch it below), and will be available through United’s inflight entertainment system as of December 1, 2023.

My take on United’s holiday film

Airline ad campaigns come in all kinds of different forms, and it’s not unusual to see these kinds of brand films. On balance, I’d say this video was pretty well produced. Will I remember it a year from now? No. Did I enjoy all (nearly) six minutes and not get bored? Yes.

The film has an adorable but predictable storyline, and the production value is good. United also did a great job making this video promotional, highlighting everything from barista coffee at United Club Fly (a grab & go concept), to United Polaris seating, to ice cream sundaes (the only consistently good part of United’s catering).

The other things that stand out are that I like the destination of the flight being “Polarisonia,” and also that the cabin is way too clean to be a United aircraft, and the employees are way too consistently friendly to be United employees.

Bottom line

United Airlines has a new short holiday film, named “Love in Plane Sight.” It has a cute storyline, and if you’re an avgeek or a fan of rom-coms, you should enjoy this.

What do you make of United’s “Love in Plane Sight” video?

Since it was a true story I felt it was more heartwarming than any Christmas shows on TV. What a Love Story!

    A 5 minute Hallmark movie.

Also: this video makes me never want to fly United premium classes ever. I’ve never flown anything but economy on United… but having someone constantly talking to me, peering over at me and even spilling drinks on me from another business class seat sounds like flying hell. And that kid. My God - I’ve never seen anybody look thankful to be sitting near a loud child on a plane. No thank you, United. Won’t be paying extra for that experience.

“SKY” seems like a total jerk. He spills drinks on the woman twice - the first time running away without even offering to pay for dry cleaning, so he can order himself a coffee and not replace hers? - and she’s just like “oh well my sweater’s ruined, but a guy is smiling at me so no biggie!”

Yeah this is very Hallmark: vapid and reinforcing of “all a woman needs is a man, any man, even an inconsiderate man, to notice her.” Ugh.

what holiday is this supposed to be for? if its a Christmas film, then call it Christmas, dont erase Christmas by saying "holiday"

    1. TravelinWilly Diamond

Calm down, snowflake, it's a holiday film. If you can't figure out what holidays it refers to, well, that's a shame.

And "erase" Christmas? How does one even do that? What does "erase" Christmas even mean?

    2. Susan Guest

They’re not erasing Christmas. They are including everyone who enjoys the holiday season, but are of other religions, so don’t celebrate Christmas, per se. UA is being inclusive, which is nice if you’re not a white Christian, even though it may seem absurd to a white Christian male.

Every Mr. Sam K Young they are doing is a slap on Dr. Dan A. Oscar's head.

Looking for a Mr. SKY on United, be careful you might end up as Dr. DAO.

My wife has ruined me with years of watching Hallmark...cute film. However, I think I'm enjoying the comments even more...LOL!

This is so bad...my mom would love it

Snarky of me but I suppose a more realistic movie with lounges packed to the gills, harried and wildly overworked grumpy staff, horribly oversold planes, maintenance delays, missed connections, rude seatmates, mishandled baggage, etc. would not be as well received because it would be too realistic.

Heard that Delta is producing a similar short-film titled “Skymiles members in non-Delta Planes”
It starts with a breakup, but ends in finding a new, true love ;)

    Very Cute! Thanks for sharing.

Reminds me of virgin airlines “departure date” movie featuring VA, VS, and VX

Yay! A five minute United commercial!

Does it show all the crumbs and boogers and nail clippings between the seats and the walls, as well as in the seat pocket in front of you?

Just curious, as I can't bring myself to watch it.

You could say that about any airline Mr Scrooge

In a similar vein, Netflix has a mini-series called A Storm for Christmas which was filmed almost entirely at Gardermoen airport in Oslo, and which follows the story of a group of passengers stranded at the Airport when a storm hits. Worth a watch to see a lovely airport, if you don't mind sub-titles (or you speak Norwegian).
