Here’s an exciting update when it comes to Air Canada Aeroplan points…
In this post:
Aeroplan can once again book Oman Air awards
Air Canada Aeroplan is a useful frequent flyer program, in particular due to the number of airline partners that the program has. Unfortunately when you have dozens of airline partners, sometimes there are some issues with accessing availability. Sometimes this is due to technological limitations, while other times it’s due to commercial disputes.
In 2019, Air Canada Aeroplan and Oman Air launched a partnership. Unfortunately for the past many months, Aeroplan hasn’t had access to Oman Air award availability. This was quite frustrating, since Oman Air offers a fantastic passenger experience, and Aeroplan was also unique in having Oman Air as a partner.
There’s a positive update on that front — Oman Air awards are once again bookable through Aeroplan. You’ll find the availability directly on Air Canada’s website, and there’s space in all three cabins, including first and business class.
See my guide to redeeming Aeroplan points like a pro. You can mix and match Oman Air with any of Aeroplan’s other airline partners, and you can also add a stopover to your ticket for just 5,000 points one-way.
Oman Air joining the oneworld alliance in 2024
Currently Oman Air doesn’t have many airlines partnerships, but that’s expected to change in 2024. Next year, the airline will join the oneworld alliance, so you can expect reciprocal points earning and redemption opportunities, plus reciprocal elite perks for oneworld Emerald and oneworld Sapphire members.
Unfortunately we still don’t know much about the timeline beyond 2024. It could potentially be weeks away, or it could be 10+ months away.
I’m curious to see what happens with the Air Canada Aeroplan partnership when Oman Air joins oneworld. There’s nothing that precludes the airline from working with Air Canada and also working with oneworld airlines, though that’s not to say that this will necessarily happen.
Bottom line
Oman Air awards are once again bookable with Air Canada Aeroplan points. This is a positive development, as Oman Air is a fantastic little airline, based in a beautiful country, with a good amount of award availability.
Anyone plan on ticketing an Oman Air award with Aeroplan points?
OK; I'll swim against current. An Aeroplan member since 1984; have had many, many positive experiences. And, with a little planning, gone pretty much wherever, whenever!
Aeroplan is the worst FFP with even worse customer service and should be avoided at all costs. By posting this you are promoting this terrible FFP.
Glad to hear the chaos and hell-hole that is Aeroplan is at least attempting to get its act together. Unfortunately, it's still plagued by the same nonsense:
Add partner airline + provide little to no availability + funnel people to your over priced, under-performing carrier with subpar service across all facets of air travel = market yourself as the greatest one-stop shop for all partner availability
Aeroplan continues to disappoint, but I'm sure they'll spin...

So between this news and your article about 20% Chase bonus and transferring instantly, I transferred 100K Chase points over. But that article about the transfer should really be updated. Per previous reports, and now I'll add mine, 20% bonus is not instantaneus. Have to decide whether to transfer an additional 20K to Aeroplan or chance losing the availability by the time the bonus posts.
Here is one data point. I transferred 60K Chase points on 16 December. The 60K was posted instantly and 6K, or 10% posted about 10 to 12 hours later. The other 12K, or 20% just posted today, 20 December.
Thanks! I decided not to chance it and transferred an extra 20K, then booked the flight. Won't be hard to make use of the other 24K (I think).
Great, now Aeroplan please return ANA awards. I just want to burn this 50k cert and cancel my chase Aeroplan card.
Not just Oman Air, but awards to/from India seem to be back available on the website after nearly 2 years.
Not entirely true. AI is still missing.
Aeroplan has been, and still is, a mess
100% the case, and no one but those who have had more than a superficial interaction with the program will know it.
