Earn Triple Points For Hilton Stays This July With Honors Amex Cards

In the interest of full disclosure, One Mile at a Time earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. While I love the elite benefits offered by Starwood Preferred Guest and World of Hyatt, the hotel program that consistently has the best promotions is Hilton Honors. When you combine that with their generous points earning structure to begin with, it’s pretty easy to rack up free nights with Hilton Honors.

Hilton Honors’ current global promotion offers double base points at all brands between May 1 and August 31, 2018. This means you’re earning:

  • 10 Honors bonus points for stays at most brands (for a total of 20 points per dollar)
  • 5 Honors bonus points for stays at Home2 Suite by Hilton and Tru by Hilton (for a total of 10 points per dollar)
  • This doesn’t include the elite bonus points that Silver, Gold, and Diamond members earn

With the exception of two limited service brands, Honors members will earn 20 points per dollar spent, Silver members will earn 22 points per dollar spent, Gold members will earn 28 points per dollar spent, and Diamond members will earn 30 points per dollar spent.

This promotion is valid at Hilton’s portfolio of over 5,000 hotels around the world, and unlike the promotions from some other chains, all properties participate in this promotion. There’s also no cap on how many points you can earn, and there’s no minimum stay requirement.

I have to give Hilton credit not just for the number of promotions they offer, but also that they’re quite generous.

Hilton Honors has now added a further fun element to their promotion. Those with a Hilton Honors American Express Card can earn triple base points when using their Hilton Honors American Express Card on eligible stays between July 1 and July 31, 2018.

This means that Honors members will earn an additional 5-10 points per dollar spent on Hilton purchases. This is in addition to the bonus points you earn for paying for your stay with a Hilton Amex:

For example, this means that a Diamond member with the Aspire Card would earn 54 points per dollar spent at Hilton properties (10 base points, plus triple points, plus 10 bonus points per dollar spent for being a Diamond member, plus 14 points per dollar spent for paying with the credit card).

Put another way, Hilton’s top properties cost 95,000 points per night, meaning that spending ~$1,760 at Hilton properties would earn you a free night at Hilton’s top hotels, many of which retail for close to $1,000 per night.

That’s extremely compelling, and Hilton is definitely winning here when it comes to having the most lucrative summer promotion.

There’s no separate registration required for this offer, but rather after registering for their main global promotion you should also see this promotion listed on the registration confirmation page.

(Tip of the hat to Frequent Miler)

  1. @ Kalboz — This is listed after you register for the main global promotion. Will update the post to reflect that. Thanks!

  2. Agreed…this is way too lucrative!

I already booked a 5-night stay for the third week of July at ‘The Grand Islander by Hilton Grand Vacations’ in Honolulu that will cost more than $2K. At 54HH/$ that will earn me:

    $2,000-plus * 54HH/$ = at least 108K HH points…

Enough points for a free standard award night at Hilton’s most expensive hotels…

@Kalboz – If in doubt, just register again for the global promo. It will simply confirm that you registered from the global promo and then it will say this:

“Have a Hilton Honors American Express Card?

Instead of Double Points, you can earn Triple Points after you use your Hilton Honors American Express Card on eligible Hilton stays July 1 – 31.*”

  3. @ Lucky, do you plan to review the Aspire card soon? There was a lot of attention around the launch and I have been awaiting your formal review.

Also, we have done very well with the return on Hilton spend with the Aspire. Yes the points are worth much less per point (sort of like “Skypesos”) but they are NOT worthless, much the contrary the returns per dollar spent can be huge. We just booked 5 nights (5th night free) at the Grand Wailea over the holidays. The 380K points (100K from Aspire bonus) did not take that long to earn with all the great promotions and bonuses and our return on Hilton spent was huge (when I booked our same stay, paid was over $7K after taxes).

  4. We just signed up for this promotion. Thank you, Lucky! Because of your blog, we also recently opened Amex Hilton Honor card with 75k bonus and also purchased some points through current 100% bonus Honors point promotion. We have some existing HHonors points but it was nothing big, but now we are planing to use them for booking rooms (5 nights for 4 nights’ points) for our daughter’s military graduations later this year. We will save around $700 for the hotel stays and already booked Southwest flights for two using Rapid Rewards and Companion Pass (which was offered for California Resident only at the end of last year, and thankfully we also signed up for Chase Southwest Card after reading your blog post!). I applogize that my comment is a little off topic, but I want to express how thankful we are for your blog posts.
