The Hyatt Privé program offers incredible perks at select Hyatt properties, including complimentary breakfast, room upgrades, hotel credits, and more. While the program was first introduced in 2018, in this post I’d like to provide an update on the program, given all of the new hotels that Hyatt has added over the years.

Hotels still largely rely on travel advisors to sell rooms, especially at luxury hotels. As a result, many hotel brands have developed special partnerships with select travel agencies, so that they can offer their guests more perks when staying at their hotels.

In the past we’ve written about Accor Preferred, Belmond Bellini ClubFour Seasons Preferred PartnerHilton for Luxury, Mandarin Oriental Fan ClubMarriott STARS, Oetker Collection Pearl PartnerRosewood Elite, and Shangri-La Luxury Circle. Beyond that, there are organizations like Virtuoso, which offer similar benefits, but have member hotels that span many hotel groups, and also include independent hotels.

Hyatt offers a similar program for many of their hotels, which has the potential to add huge value for frequent Hyatt guests. Hyatt Privé offers special privileges at hundreds of Hyatt hotels around the world, many of which don’t belong to Virtuoso. In many cases there are even free night offers.

What brands participate in Hyatt Privé?

Hyatt Privé rates can be booked at the following brands:

  • Park Hyatt (all properties)
  • Andaz (all properties)
  • Miraval (all properties)
  • Grand Hyatt (select properties)
  • Hyatt Centric (select properties)
  • Hyatt Regency (select properties)
  • The Unbound Collection (select properties)
  • Thompson (select properties)
  • Alila (select properties)
  • Joie de Vivre (select properties)

You can find a full list of participating Hyatt Privé properties here.

  • A one category room upgrade confirmed within 24 hours of booking (room-to-room or suite-to-suite) — based on availability at the time of booking

What is the minimum stay required for a Hyatt Privé reservation?

For Park Hyatt and Andaz properties, there’s no minimum stay requirement to book a Hyatt Privé rate. For Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Alila, Joie de Vivre, Thomson, and The Unbound Collection, you need to stay a minimum of two nights to book a Hyatt Privé rate.

How much is the Hyatt Privé rate?

The Hyatt Privé rate should be identical to the flexible/standard rate. You can’t book a Hyatt Privé rate in conjunction with a member discount rate, a AAA rate, a corporate rate, a pre-paid rate, a third party rate, or an award stay, just to give a few examples.

Do you earn World of Hyatt points for Hyatt Privé rates?

Absolutely! You earn World of Hyatt points and receive all elite benefits when booking a Hyatt Privé rate, and can also take advantage of Hyatt’s promotions. This works no differently than any other paid Hyatt stay for those purposes.

You can still apply a Globalist suite upgrade or Explorist club upgrade to a Privé reservation, and take advantage of all other perks you’d receive for stays.

The only thing you generally can’t do is use points to upgrade a Privé booking.

I’m a Globalist member, don’t I already get these Perks?

There are several potential advantages to a Globalist member booking a Hyatt Privé rate:

  • You receive a confirmed upgrade within 24 hours of when you book based on availability, while Globalist upgrades are based on availability at the time of check-in (and as a Globalist member I sometimes don’t receive any sort of upgrade)
  • You receive a $50-100 hotel credit per stay
  • You receive complimentary restaurant breakfast, while when a hotel has a club lounge you typically only get complimentary breakfast in the lounge
  • You receive a welcome gift

Isn’t this a good alternative to going for status?

In my opinion, yes. As hotels increasingly introduce these types of programs, the value of elite status sort of decreases. Just for booking through certain travel agents you get a complimentary upgrade, free breakfast, early and late check-out (subject to availability), and a hotel credit. Those are some of the most valuable elite perks, and then some.

For a leisure traveler it makes you wonder whether it’s really worth being loyal to a particular chain, rather than just staying at the hotel that’s the best value in a given market.

How do I book a Hyatt Privé rate?

Consumers can’t book Hyatt Privé rates directly, but rather you have to book through an eligible travel agent. I know Ford and his team are happy to help with these reservations, and he can be reached at [email protected].

To make your own life easier, in general I’d recommend doing the following before contacting a travel agent:

  • Look up the flexible rate for the hotel you want to book, just to be sure that Hyatt Privé is the best option for you (again, other rates don’t qualify)
  • Make sure you’re meeting the night eligibility — for Park Hyatt and Andaz, a one night stay is eligible, while for the participating Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Alila, Joie de Vivre, Thompson, and The Unbound Collection properties, a two night stay is required

Is there a fee to book Hyatt Privé rates?

Different travel advisors will have different policies, but Ford doesn’t charge service fees with Hyatt Privé bookings. Many other travel advisors don’t either, though some do.

Can I apply Hyatt Privé benefits to existing bookings?

If you’ve already booked a stay with Hyatt and it’s refundable or booked at the standard rate, it might be possible to apply Hyatt Privé benefits to your booking. You’ll want to contact a travel advisor to see what might be possible.

Is there a list of Hyatt Privé hotels?

The hotels participating in Privé aren’t published by Hyatt, but here’s a list of all properties participating in Hyatt Privé.

This can change, but a travel agent can advise you exactly which properties are participating (in case there’s confusion), and whether the property credit is for $50 or $100.

Pay for Hyatt Privé stays with any credit card

Unlike Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts® rates, with Hyatt Privé you can use any credit card to secure and pay for your hotel stay. I’d of course recommend using a card that earns extra points on hotel spending, so that you maximize your rewards.

Where I see value in the Hyatt Privé program

World of Hyatt Globalist is my favorite hotel status, and I’ve found the Hyatt Privé program to be a great complement.

I don’t book everything as a Privé rate, though:

  • For Park Hyatt and other expensive hotels I’ll often redeem World of Hyatt points, especially given that Hyatt honors all elite benefits on award stays, and even lets Globalist members use their suite upgrades; you can’t get Privé benefits on points stays
  • Sometimes the pre-paid or promotional rate is so much cheaper that it’s not worth paying the “standard” rate; that’s not always the case, though it does happen sometimes

Otherwise I get value through the Privé program for a good number of Hyatt stays.

For Park Hyatts and other luxury properties, I find that booking through Privé is better than booking through Virtuoso. The perks are largely similar, though the difference is that when booking through Privé you get a confirmed upgrade at the time of booking (subject to availability within 24 hours). I’ll often be upgraded even further, but it’s nice to have that confirmed upgrade at booking.

Get an upgrade at booking with Hyatt Privé

Where I see the absolute most value is with mid-range properties where you’d otherwise never have access to one of these kinds of programs. Usually these proprietary programs are reserved for “true” luxury properties, but getting these at Andaz, Hyatt Regency, Thompson, and several other brands, is awesome.

Bottom line

I was excited when the Hyatt Privé program launched at the beginning of 2018, and I remain equally enthusiastic about it now. In my opinion Hyatt has done an excellent job with the execution of this program.

Hyatt Privé has added a ton of value to my hotel stays, and in many cases has caused me to choose a Hyatt over another hotel. While these perks are nice at Park Hyatts, I’m equally thrilled to see them at many of Hyatt’s other brands, ranging from Andaz to Alila.

For many people this program sounds too good to be true, but it’s not. Just book the standard rate through an eligible travel advisor and you’ll get an upgrade, a $50-100 credit, free breakfast, and more.
