Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will shortly be opening reservations for its inaugural flights using electric aircraft… which will happen at some point in 2028… maybe… and you don’t even have to pay a deposit yet.

The real question is if SAS will still be in business by 2028

So much confidence. So much hubris.

Hey, where's my flying car?

Good luck.

No thanks.

If this Boeing 737MAX, 777X, etc saga has taught anything... it's to let new aircraft models/variants prove themselves for a while, before indulging.

1946 SEK/NOK/DKK? Is that including fuel surcharges?

“In how many markets could this actually functionally operate”

It pretty much covers a large part of European flights. I’ve read that if you leave 5 seats empty, the range of the aircraft will increase to 800km.

But even then, with just 400km you are able to fly Amsterdam - Frankfurt or London - Paris. I think this could actually solve the European aviation climate crisis by letting the bigger airports only handle large traffic and put these electric/hybrid planes on smaller airports. There will be less flights into congested airports which increases the living environment, and the smaller airports will be able to handle these kind of flights, while also minimising disruption to their surroundings because these planes can operate fully electric.

It's not just the airports though. Without significant changes to ATC, none of that will assist in changing much.

In the near-term, a bunch of these slow+low flying things would actually cause MORE problems for the likes of New York, London, and Beijing, than help.

They definitely won’t if these woke ESG projects are their main focus now…

You mean the self-imposed European aviation climate crisis.

I wonder what the turn-around time is for one of these in the frozen north?

Glad they're not taking any money for these, because I doubt they'll exist by then!
